Letter requesting IVF Cost, IVF Success Rate and other Information
I have contacted a number of clinics around the world requesting information on their IVF treatment and I will be publishing many of their replies here so that you can benefit from having all the replies in one place rather than having to go through the whole process yourself – hopefully it will help you to determine which clinics are worth further investigation.
I will tag each post with the country name, so if there is a particular country you are interested in go to the tags (in the left hand column) and select that country to see all clinics that I have posted so far. I will also let you know how quickly each clinic responded to my request for information. Please bear with me, I will get the responses up as quickly as I can but it is taking some time doing all the emails, waiting for responses then getting them published here.
On the whole the letter that I sent was pretty much the same for each clinic, after asking around (thanks to everybody who helped me) I compiled a list of sixteen questions. This is what I asked:
I am looking to have IVF treatment due to a failure to become pregnant after over ten years. After all the tests the doctors in the UK say that this is “unexplained” and IVF is the way forward given my age – I am 43.
I would be grateful if you could give me some information on your clinic, both for my own use and so that I can also pass it on to others in a similar situation to myself through my IVF blog (www.ivfcost.net).
The questions I have regarding treatment at your clinic are:
- What is the current success rate for your clinic? (preferably by age as I know that the success rate will be much lower for somebody of my age)
- How many cycles do you perform per year at the clinic?
- What is the maximum age that you treat?
- Are there any fertility conditions that you will not treat?
- What is your embryo transfer policy? How many embryos will you replace at one time?
- What is the basic cost of the IVF treatment?
- What additional costs would / could be incurred?
- What happens to the costs if the cycle has to be abandoned?
- How long would I need to be in ________ for?
- Who deals with the logistics of flights and accommodation?
- How is the pre-treatment carried out?
- How do I get medication?
- How will I be monitored?
- How will I know that I am not being under / over stimulated?
- If I have a problem whilst in the UK who would I go to?
- Is the clinic registered with any regulatory body?
I apologise for the long list, the more I look into having IVF treatment the more complex it seems to get!
I look forward to hearing from you.

In our clinic there is no age restriction and prices are cheaper than in other countries.Any person,at any age, with or without marital status can register the baby and be legal parent of the child. If you have more questions, please contact me,

This is a great site, very useful.
I wonder if you could add on to the bottom of any of your subsequent letters a BMI, as this varies massively between clinics and can make a very big difference to availability
Thanks for your suggestion Natalie, I have added this question to all letters going out as of now.

Dear Mahlet,
You can contact me personally and privately at sue@ivfcost.net or by clicking on the Contact us button at the top of any page on the blog.
I would like to point out that I have no medical knowledge, I am just an ordinary person looking to have IVF treatment the same as everybody else. If it is medical advice that you are looking for then I can forward your questions to one of the doctors who are featured on this blog – many of them are very good at answering questions and are very informative an helpful. If you have an idea of which part of the world you are looking to have treatment in I can direct your questions to the right people.
All the best,
Sue
