IVF Cost at the Nairobi IVF Centre, Kenya – great information!
The following reply to my letter requesting information on IVF cost, IVF success rates and the IVF procedure was received from Nairobi IVF Centre in Kenya the day after I made the request.
This is a great response, Mr Olegs Tucs has answered all of my questions directly – I have added the approximate US$ values in red, he had already converted them to Euros for me. The success rates for my age group appear very good, although as I have mentioned elsewhere on this blog it is very difficult to compare there.
Overall I think this is a great response and Mr Tucs will certainly be going on my shortlist. The full contact details for the clinic are:

If you check out the website there is a full list of costs, their current success rates and a very useful dictionary of infertility for people like myself who are not too well clued up on all of the jargon! I have contacted Mr. Olegs Tucs on a number of occassions and he is VERY approachable and willing to answer all questions.
Here’s Mr. Olegs Tucs reply:
Thank You a lot for the interest in our services.
Please see answers below:
> What is the current success rate for your clinic? (preferably by age as I know that the success rate will be much lower for somebody of my age)
Success rate for the first 6 months of 2008 is 41% of clinical pregnancies per cycle started. For the age group over 40 we have much lower success rate of 23 %, for egg donation programm the overall success rate is 56 %. Now we are going to publish our results in East Africa Medical Journal, so hopefully in short time the most detailed information will be available.
An average of 140 IVF/ICSI cycles per year
We do not have an age limit for IVF with donor eggs, in case of own eggs we do not do the treatment if FSH level on menstrual cycle Day 2-3 is higher than 17 mUI/ml. So we actually do not look at the age but at ovarian reserve as such.
We are unable to do sex selection and PGD. Otherwise we try to find suitable solution for every case.
We prefer to transfer no more than 2 embryos, but final decision is base on embryo quality and patients medical history.
The basic cost is KSHS 300,000 (appr. EUR 3000) (approx. US$4,100) incl. medications.
ICSI (microinjection) if necessary – 20,000 KSHS (EUR 200) (approx. US$275), first consultation KSHS 2000 (approx. US$28), sperm analysis if not done elsewhere in 6 months before the treatment, KSHS 2000 (approx US$28). Health screen and hormonal profiling if not done elsewhere in 6 months before the treatment, KSHS 30,000. (approx. US$410) I can provide more information what tests are necessary if You need so.
In such a case You have to pay only for what have been done. Price breakdown will be given in details. If the first cycle fails we offer second attempt at KSHS 250,000. (approx. US$3,430)
Ideally for the whole duration of treatment – it is ca. 3 weeks if You have a regular cycle. You can also do ovarian stimulation locally under supervision of local specialist and come for actual procedure only. Stay time will not exceed one week then and You will have to pay about half-price- that is laboratory expences.
We can arrange both flight and accommodation incl. airport transfer if necessary. Or we may give You hotel details and You can arrange the accommodation on Your own.
First we need some information about Your medical history, please see the application form attached. Based on information we have the treatment schedule will be set up.
Normally You will get medications on Your first visit to us. Alternatively we can give You the list of medications necessary so You can get those at Your location.
Several ( at least 2) ultrasound check ups are necessary during stimulation and we do it locally at the Clinic.
On the first scan ovarian response is determined as number and size of follicles growing and we will follow You up every two days to keep the stimulation under control.
It depends where in UK You live. We have specialists in London, but elsewhere You may need to find out who is experienced IVF specialist in Your area.
So far there are no appropriate regulatory bodies for IVF in Kenya so we are registered as private gynecological clinic at the medical board.
Hope I have provided at least some information You need and You are welcome to ask more questions if by chance something is missing. In Your case FSH blood level is the most important criteria for us to decide if we can do IVF.
Kind regards,
MD Mr. Olegs Tucs

UPDATE: August 2011
I have just had some updated prices from the Nairobi IVF Centre – it’s not that the prices have increased but more a case that they have included more in their package. Here is the information I have been given:
“We have increased prices for treatment effective from this months – IVF now costs KSHS 320,000 (USD 3555) and ICSI KSHS 340,000 (USD 3777), but price now includes luteal support up to 10th week of pregnancy. IVF with donor oocytes KSHS 410,000 (USD 4555) including donor fee and luteal support.
As we have switched to extended culture and vitrification, frozen embryo transfer now costs KSHS 50,000 (USD 555).
Our charges are still in Kenya shilling, so amount in USD is subject to exchange rate.
All the best
Olegs Tucs”

I am 50 yrs male, my sperm count reading was 98% appx 10 months ago. My wife is 33 yrs old and her egg reaces count of 17 (again this was appx 10 months ago).
Please advise if it is advisable for us to try IVF at your Centre.
Thank you

I am a woman 35yrs old.I have not been able to conceive because the doctors told me that i have a growth in my uterus,i have been on medication for the last 2yrs,my conditon seemed to have improved for i am no longer in pain,What are the possibilities that I will have a baby if we try IVF at your centre
if you were ovulation exactly on the 24th day of a 28 days cycle, your cycles is regular, your huby’s sperms are okey according to aga khan laboratory done four months ago but you have one blocked tube but you have tried unsucceffuly to conceive for the last two years what are the other methods that are relatively cheaper that can be used to incrrease chances of conceiving?

To help others in a similar situation the response to Barbara from Dr. Olegs Tucs was:
Dear Barbara,
In given situation if cycle is regular and one fallopian tube is open
and husbands sperm is normal, the affordable option may be an IUI
(intrauterine insemination) with light hormonal support.
This means we may give You low dose of FSH, the hormone that will
stimulate growth of several eggs instead of one You have ready every
month.
Than we will also need to have ultrasound check ups to be sure eggs
are growing in that ovary, which is connected to one fallopian tube.
Because if eggs grow in the ovary connected with closed tube,
spermatozoa will not get there to fertilize.
So when we will see eggs (follicles actually) growing in the right
ovary we can do the procedure.

Do you do IVF treatments with HIV discodant couples?
The reply that was received from Mr. Olegs Tucs regarding HIV discordant couples was:
“We do IVF for HIV discordant couples, but only in case if husband is HIV positive and wife HIV negative.”

My 27 year-old helper has been married several years with no baby. She suffered an ectopic pregnancy and has undergone several operations after establishing a blockage of all her tubes. The operation failed. Would it be possible to help such a case? She is desperate for a child and has no money. She currently endures really cruel treatment from relatives as a result. Please help
Kindly let me know if I can get a sperm donor. I am 0ver 35 with the ‘safe mothrhood’ window closing. I am not in a relationship and would wish to have a baby…no strings attached and without fear of HIV infection from a hurried relationship. I really need help
Kindly give me the cost of IUI
The response to Dorothy regarding the IUI costs is shown below.
Sue
Dear Dorothy,
IUI with husbands/partners sperm costs KSHS 10,000 (USD 125), IUI with
donor sperm costs KSHS 26,000 (USD 325). The exchange rates are as on
16th Apr 2009.

i am 34 years old my wife is 24 years my sperm count is very low what can i do can ivf help
Hey, just went through my 1st IVF cycle which failed (at the Nairobi Hospital Fertility Centre) in April.
Would like to give it another shot. Do you do IVF for HIV+ woman with -ve husband?
Will IVF be needed in a discordant couple where the man is HIV+ and his sperm count normal, i.e. will it be possible for your clinic to do the sperm washing and then insemination? and what would be the costs
For all those that are interested Mr. Olegs Tucs reply to Pat’s question is:
“In this case it is possible to wash the sperm and do insemination. The
cost of the procedure is KSHS 20,000 (appr. USD 250 at current rate).”
All the best,
Sue
Dear all,
After a number of enquiries regarding the possibility of IVF when the woman is HIV positive Mr. Olegs Tucs has informed me that:
“There are some news in this field. In fact we have finally established
separate equipment line for HIV+ patients and can now offer ICSI even
to HIV+ women. However as You may know pregnancy in combination with
HIV infection possesses great risk for mothers health and therefore we
are doing ICSI after careful medical examination of the patient.”
All the best,
Sue
We have not been able to be blessed with child and have been married since 1985. My wife has been done surgery twice for excision of left ovarian mass first in 1997, May and lately in February 2009, she was done tuboplasty but so far we have tried to concieve to no avail.
My sperm count has been done consistently and it was found to be normal. I am seeking to know whether we can go for artificial insemination or Ivf with their cost implication. I am 42 while my wife is 36 years.
please keep me informed.
Thank you.

I am 36 yrs old married, tried to conceive since 2003 but I have not been able to. I underwent a laparascopy for polycyst and ovarian drilling on 28th July 2008, but since then I have not been able to. Please advice

I am 39 years old and have been trying to conceive with no success. Recently i was diagnosed with blocked tubes. What are my chances with IVF?
Attn: Beatrice
Blocked tubes is very common case of infertility and the prognosis is usually good. The success rate for your age group at our clinic is 37% of clinical pregnancies per cycle started but it is worth to check your FSH before treatment to have an idea of ovarian reserve first.

I am 35 yrs HIV+ female, my partner is HIV- and would like to conceive. What procedure needs to be done and what is the cost? Thank you.
my husband has low sperm count about 1.6 millions, what should we do?
Attn: Wendy
Dear Wendy, in Your case the most important thing may be having HIV negative child. Therefore I would recommend ICSI procedure to avoid possibility of infection as much as possible. After ICSI and embryo transfer it is very high chance to have HIV negative child and you should avoid breastfeeding child after delivery to protect him/her from infection.

Attn: Ruth
Dear Ruth,
The first thing to do is to repeat the semen analysis as count may vary from time to time. If you have already repeated or it turns out to be the same after repeat, the most viable option with given sperm count is IVF with ICSI as 1,6 million is much lower than the normal value of 20 or more million necessary for normal fertilization.

I am 38yrs not married and HIV positive, i would like to have a baby but my tubes are blocked, can i go through the ICSI method? with a donors sperm? and what would be the cost?
Hi, im 29yrs. I tried to conceive in vain. I did an hsg that showed that one of the tubes is blocked and the other one is partially blocked due to possibly endometriosis. Is it possible for me to do an IUI instead of IVF. Is the partially blocked left tube possible of working? My scans were in January 2009. Does endometriosis spread with time. At the time my ovaries were OK. What can i do. My guys sperm count was also normal when checked. thank you in advance.
i am 25yrs my husband is 28 we was trying for 1yr now and went to fertility specialist but seems like it is not helping so we decided to ivf. what are the chances for us, and if its unsuccessfull are we getting our refund back, and can you guys help me with the visa to come to kenya, i will also like to the exact cost please, asante
Kindly let me know if I can get a sperm donor. I am 0ver 40 with no child. I am not in a relationship and would wish to have a baby…no strings attached and without fear of HIV infection please. let me know the cost if i can afford coz i`m not employed. I really need help
Dear Florence,
We can offer You choice of 12 anonymous sperm donors. All are repeatedly tested negative for HIV, Hepatitis B, C, syphilis, they all have no family history of hereditary diseases and sperm has been quarantined for at least 3 months.

Hi,
My name is Christine I have been to your centre twice for ICSI and Day 5 blastocyst transfer. I am 33 years old, 28 day cycle, normal uterus no blocked tubes checked through laparascopy.I have a 12 year old daughter i got when i was 20 years from a previous relationship. My husband is 31 years old with severe oligoasthenozoospermia. Our first IVF in June 2009 the beta was at 35 and was told it would fail and it did at around 6 weeks, the second one the beta levels were good and i was happy but 8 days later i started to bleed when i came over to the clinic an ultra sound confirmed i had lost the pregnancy. the first time i had 13 eggs and the second time i had 18 eggs retrieved. The first time i was put on cyclogest pessaries and suffered yeast infection the second time i was put on gestone injection at least i got a positive, although what i was looking for was a baby. i would like to try IVF again although i am now running out of resources. but first i would like that all possible causes of the pregnancy loss are eliminated. I am beginning to believe i am infertile and cannot carry a baby to term. what tests should be done on me to confirm the problem i have? can they be done at your clinic. i have had of autoimmune disorders, anti nuclear anti bodies and anti phosphoid anti bodies, thrombophilia etc. i have a positive VDRL yet i have been treated several times for syphillis i was finally told that i have syphillis anti bodies but not the syphillis itself, my husband has severe oligoasthnozoospermia and is HIV + I am HIV -. He is giving up on life and believes that he will die childless. i have read a bit about chromosomal abnormalities. I wish we could rule out the cause because the doc said it implanted after both trys but i still loose the pregnancies please help us. Is there anything that can be done for us to improve our chances?
I am 36 years old and my wife is 33 years old she had a child 14 years ago since then she did not pregnant again but she do misses her mestration sometimes 6 weeks or 4 weeks after she will be bleeding contineously for 2 to 3 weeks this has been happening regularly for the past years unto now,we have seen many doctors and all come up with different results the bottom line is want to do IVF at your clinic were do we start from now?Or is their any other alternatives if so please let us know thanks
What is the process and cost for IVF on a discordant couple, age 34 yrs old, husband HIV+. How long does the process take and especially if they are not residents in Kenya? Have a regular cycle, already have one child. Hoping to start in December (only have 3 weeks holiday). Please advice…
Dear Brenda,
Mr. Olegs Tucs is on vacation until the 4th of January. I have forwarded your enquiry to him and he should respond when he returns, I know that you are hoping to start earlier than this but I have no other means of contacting him I’m afraid.

Hello,Im delighted to see your website and particlarly about the fertility treatment. Now my case is clear.I have a low sperm count. My doctor has tested me and my wife but the problem is mine.He has told me i have 44 million sperms and they are 65% ok with regard to other features.Given im 32 and my wife 31 ifear i might never get a child. Moreover, could i be wasting time for my wife? The IVF treatment is somehow beyond my reach,i may not at once raise 300000 but with elaborate arrangements,i can raise within some time.So please advise me on if i can seek your treatment with little amount then i pay as time goes by.My doc had mentioned if all else fails we could go that route. Please advise>im dissilusioned beyond measure.
Hello Antoni,
I am sorry to hear about your situation. I have passed your message on to Mr. Olegs Tucs at the Nairobi IVF Centre who I am sure will advise you very well.
All the best in your journey and do let us know how you get on.

Hi, am 34 yrs old, started trying for a baby in Nov last year, was discovered to have fibroids in March 09, in June 09 discovered that my tubes are blocked ..had surgery in Aug09 to unblock tubesa nd it was discovered that TB had infected my tubes and thus had caused blockage and since they were irreparable they were removed. Was shocked at the turn of events!! I have never had any symptoms of TB eg coughing, loss of weight….etcBut ave now been on TB medication now since Sep to end March 2010. Is there hopw for me to still give birth by IVF?? What is the procudure for me??
SWM
Dear SWM,
TB can have multiple locations, not only lungs and the infection may be silent as a result You may have not had symptoms. But after treatment for TB it is generally no contraindications for IVF. In fact IVF is the only treatment possible as tubes are removed.
Therefore You certainly can go on and try IVF with the success rate comparable or slightly lower than without TB. You should start the preparation not earlier than You will have finished TB treatment.

Dear Sir/ Madam.
I am writing this email from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. I wanted to know if your clinic would help a relative of mine, a woman in her early 30s, who could not get a child due to tube problem, but I was told that she has no other problems of getting pregnant. We can send to you copies of her medical records, and we want to know the costs and other issues related to IVF treatment at your clinic in Nairobi, Kenya.

H I HAVE A LOW SPERM COUNT OF ABOUT 1.2MILLION .MOST OF THEM DIE IMMEDIATLY AFTER EJACURATION ACCORDND TO THE DOCTOR,ALSO MOST OF THEM ARE DEFORMED.IS THERE ANY HOPE FOR A BABY WITH MY WIFE OF THREE YEARS PLEASE
Hi Everybody,
I had a question from a reader about donor eggs and I thought I would share the answer that Mr. Olegs Tucs kindly gave for the Nairobi IVF Centre:
“We do have an egg donor program running and currently we are able to offer a choice of 205 egg donors most of them have donated eggs at least once and all are tested negative for HIV, Hepatitis B, C, syphilis and have no family history of hereditary diseases.
We do not have a waiting list so after You choose the donor we are able to have IVF cycle completed in 2 months time. the full cost of the procedure is KSHS 390,000 incl medicines plus KSHS 2,000 as first visit fee.”
I hope this is of help to some of you.
All the best,
Sue
Dear Mr Dominic,
The most applicable technique in Your case may be IVF procedure combined with microinjection technique (ICSI) and use of substance called hialuronic acid. The idea is to purify good quality spermatozoa by allowing them to bind to the hialuronic acid, then pick individual spermatozoa and inject those into eggs. If You are in Nairobi, I would advice You to come to our clinic to have the repeat sperm test before we make a decision on the best way forward.
Best regards,

Dear Elizabeth Gathege,
It is very difficult to give You an exact answer on why You are not getting pregnant.
The first things to look at would be semen analysis for Your husband/partner and Your own hormonal profile.
You can visit us for consultation or discuss the matter with Your gynecologist.

do want some one to carry another couples baby
i am 38 years old and suffer from premature ovarian failure, i am also hiv positive my husband and i are desperate for a baby. please advise us if it is posible to try ivf at your centre. i havent seen my periods for 4 years. please advise.
I am 43 and my wife 35. My case is a sad one. I have been trying to father for the last seven years without success. Last year i went for a sperm analysis test and the result showed i am starlile (no single spermatozoa was traced in my semen not even a dead one). The second and the third test from different clinics showed the same. Do you do “human cell fertilization” If yes how much does it cost. I am desperate and hopeless.
l would like to do the insemination, please send me the procedures
thanks
There are two most important tests for couple prior to insemination. First woman has to check either fallopian tubes are open and after ovulation egg can pass from ovary to uterus. The procedure is abbreviated as HSG. Second is the sperm test for male partner to confirm sperm quality is good enough for insemination. Some additional hormonal tests may be required depending on medical history, but this two are the must.

Hello Dr Olegs,
I currently live in New York and will be going through IUI here, but i’m planning on coming home (Kenya) for an In vitro at your facility if all doesn’t go well with the IUI procedure. My only concern is how long should i wait to fly back after my procedure with you ? I am worried that the pressure change would cause me to misscarry. Oh ! I am 30 yrs. Kindly advice. Also, could i get your location details and facility phone number ? Thanks
Hi, I want to come to the clinic tommorrow. My tubes are blocked and surgery could not be done due to the low success rate. I had a still birth in 2008 Oct at 33wks and miscarriage at i month in June2007.Laparascopy for may 2010 done to remove fibroids, endometriosis and adhesions from a 2004 surgery of appendisectomy revealed the blockage at the cornue. I now want IVF. Is it possible
Dear Anne,
For the quick appointments it is better to call the clinic at +254 – 2731978 and book directly. It is hard to say if in Your case IVF is the option as we must to see the current condition of uterus first.

When doing IVF can can i get a baby sex that i require. What if the husband has no seminar fluid to help the flow of the sperm, If IVF has to be done what is the cost. Please advice.
Dear Rosemary,
In case of absent ejaculation it may be possible to retrieve spermatozoa from the testis by testicular sperm aspiration (TESA) provided spermatozoa are present in the testis. The cost of this procedure is KSHS 20,000 (USD 250 at the current rate). The cost of IVF if viable spermatozoa are available is KSHS 320,000 (USD 4,000).
We are not yet able to determine the sex of the embryo. But the service may become available next year. However according to new Constitution of Kenya embryos of “wrong” sex can not be disposed but must be donated to another anonymous or known couple.

Hi iam a married man aged 44.i stayed with my frst wife for seve years without a child.when we went to hospital she was found to have blocked tubes of which she refused to go for an operation.we later on parted ways.i then married the second wife and stayed together for one year then she was pregnant and got a baby boy.we could not cope then we separated .then i had a girlfriend whom i spent with a night and she told me she was pregnant i could not believe .she got a baby boy but we could not go on with her.I married my wife who is 32 early this year and we have never had any child with her .we have been trying but all is in vain.when i went with my first wife for a sperm test motility was 30%, the count was normal and the docs report confirmed my sperms were normal on two different tests. My worry is for now my sex drive is too low.Iam very much worried about this kindly please advice .
Hi iam 32 years old.i have a son who is seven years old ,I got married early this year. In 2006 i was inserted an IUD.In August this year i removed it with the fear of getting pregnant with it. since then i have been getting my menstrual periods as a drop only one day then it dissappears till now my period is a 28 day cycle. I even thought i was pregnant but this drops keep on worrying me .What could be the reason for the reduced menses? Are there chances of getting pregnant with this reduced menses?Kindly advice and let me know of your consultation fee as per now coz i have so many worrying quizs on my mind.
I just turned 50years this October and has been trying to get ivf agencies on and off.
I would like to go on an egg donation programme- what is your age limit for recipients and how would it work as i live in the UK.
How long will I have to be there fopr treatment and what would the treatment pertain?
hi, am 38yrs i have an elleven year daughter, bn trying to conceive since 2005. I conceived in 2008 bt miscarried, ive had laparascopy twice, and HSG thrice, latest HSG shows blocked left tube, the right tube fills with ink bt no spillover, my uterus is ok. my husbands sperm count is ok. What are my chances with IVF?
Dear Maurice Openda,
Semen quality may change quite fast and may depend on many factors such as illnesses You had, stress levels You have in everyday life and many others. Therefore I would advice You to do semen analysis once again to see if there are any changes. Also Your wife may need to visit gynecologist to do her check ups. These are first things to do before taking any further steps.

You may need to have Your hormones tested to find the reason for Your period being so small. You should visit us or any other gynecologist in first 2 days after You had period to do the blood tests.

Dear dawn
We do not have an age limit for egg donor program, but You should
consult Your GP first to see if Your body is fit for pregnancy. You
may need to stay in Nairobi for max 3 weeks and process can be started
any time depending on Your period and requirements for egg donor.
Please note we have only local Kenyan egg donors available.
Best regards,
MD Mr Olegs Tucs

Dear Khadija,
Our overall success rate for Your age group in first 9 months of 2010 is 38% of clinical pregnancies per IVF cycle.
But to provide You better estimate of Your chance You may need to to blood test for FSH (Follicle-stimulating hormone). It should be done in first 2-4 days of Your period. The test can be done in our Clinic or any other major hospital.

Thanx for helping couples who have lost hope in having children and providing that last option! Am so glad that there’s IVF since having lost both tubes last year I have NO other option.
I have one tube one removed recebtly due to my 5th ectopic. The tube removed was shown by hsg to be midly blocked and the remaining once had an open surgery due to ectopic and after that we perfromed hsg which showed it is open.qUESTION; if we do IVF will I be successful or it could get to the remaining open tube?
Hi, I wrote earlier but seems I iput a wrong mail add. I have one tube remaining that according to hsg last year was open and even mid this year when I went through another laparascopy August this year due to ectopic.I lost the other tube coz of ectopic. In short I have had 4 ectopics and I am seeing ymself coming for IVF. Question is whether IVF will ensure that the egg does not go to the remaining tube coz I am terrified by ectopics coz of the previous happenings. Please I am 27years and my hubby is 29years.Getting pregnant has always been easy but since the other tube was removed I have tried two months but no pregnancy meaning the remaining falopian tube isnt working or something.Kindly note that my ovaries are fine as explained by my gaena
Hi? what is IVF? AM 25Yrs married, with irregular periods sometimes taking upto 2months. the past 1yr, have been trying to conceive but havent been successful. kindly assist on what to do or test to to do. desperate, Kwinn.
Attn: PRECIOUS
It is not necessary to do HSG before IVF. But there is a list of tests You should do first including blood tests for hormones, pelvic ultrasound and semen analysis for the husband. Both You and Your husband should be present if doing IVF in our Clinic. The full cost of IVF procedure including medicines is from KSHS 300,000 to 340,000 (highest being in case of very low sperm quality)

In IVF we do ultrasound guided embryo transfer. It is therefore possible to control where the embryo goes. It lowers possibility of ectopic pregnancy, but I must say it does not exclude it completely.

IVF stands for In Vitro Fertilization meaning the eggs are collected from ovaries, put together with sperm and resulting embryos are allowed to grow in the incubator for few days before they are put in the uterus.
I would be happy to provide You more information on investigations needed if You write to nairobiivf@gmail.com and refer to this comment on ivfcost.net

Thanks
Bettah
Bettah,
It may be possible for You to have ICSI treatment with donor sperm at our clinic at the cost of KSHS 340,000. But first of all You have to do CD4 count and viral load. You should come with the results to our clinic and only then we can decide if it is safe to proceed for ICSI.

You have to check if Your fallopian tubes are open. This is procedure called HSG and can be done at many hospitals where they have x-ray unit.
If tubes are open it may be no need for IVF and You can try few more rounds with clomid. But if tubes are closed, You will need IVF.

Has anyone been to this clinic and underwent the procedure? Please share your experience for I am considering doing IVF there. I will appreciate any info.
Hi Alisha,
I have never been to the clinic so am in no position to comment on their treatment. I have, however, had a lot of correspondence with Mr. Olegs Tucs in passing on readers questions and I have always found him to reply very promptly and thoroughly to all enquiries – and believe me, many of the doctors don’t! He is definitely one of the best for responding and appears very knowledgeable.
I hope this helps, but if there is anybody who has used the clinic we would all love to hear from you, and if you do choose to use them Alisha it would be fantastic if you could give us your feedback.
All the very best,
Sue xx
I spoke to you some time last year but i had few problems with work so I could not pursue my treatment. I am 47 years old desperate for a child and now determined to use a donor egg. My periods are very irregular . My husband had very low sperm and he denies having any problem. Ihad a cousin that will be contacting you as well and her name is Hernia Massaquoi.
I am West African background and do not know anyone in Kenya. We will likely like to come by November for an initial consultation. I was told i had fibriods but the professor i saw told me it is not in the uterine cavity and was not going to do anything. I leave and work in London. Have you any centre in London
Josephine Squire,
You are most welcome here in Nairobi. Would You want to choose one of
our egg donors (all are local Kenyan) or You would have Your own? If
the You have fibroids, which are away from uterus, these will not
interfere with pregnancy, but it is good to repeat scan in October to
make sure the situation is the same.
Low sperm count is not a problem as we will do ICSI (microinjection)
if necessary and it works even if we have just few good spermatozoa.
We do not have any office in London.
but You or your cousin are welcome to visit us any day except Sunday 10Am – 2PM

It is possible to do pre -treatment, down regulation and first phase of ovarian stimulation at You location if there is a gynecologist who would help You through the process. We prefer You to come in Nairobi for the first follicular tracking. So the stay time may be reduced up to 10-14 days as we normally do blastocyst embryo transfer.
this year we plan to close for the whole December and will stop recruiting new patients by first week of November to be able to complete all the treatments. We plan to re-open on 2nd of January 2012.

Does a 35 yr old lady with bilateral hydrosalpinx determined by hsg require her tubes to be removed before IVF? Is IVF the best option for pregnancy? Thank you
Att: Lee
Yes, it is standard practice to remove or cut tubes with hydrosalpinx before IVF.
The nature of the procedure is such that IVF would remain the only option to conceive.

Hi, i am planning to come for ivf at your facility. My primary concern is how long do i have to be in nairobi for, considering that i dont live in nairobi. Secondly, what precautions do i need to take after the procedure? How long do i need to stay away from work? Any guidance is welcome as am really anxious as to how i can fit it into my schedule. Thanks.
Att: D Ochieng
We normally do short ovarian stimulation protocol. It means ideally You have to be in Nairobi to start treatment on the day You get Your period and stay for 3 weeks until it is completed. There are some tests You have to do 1-2 months BEFORE coming for IVF:
HIV, Hepatitis B, C and syphilis test results for both man and woman, semen analysis for man, pelvic ultrasound for woman.
Hormonal profile for woman to be done as follows:
Day 2-4 of period – FSH, LH, Estradiol
Day 20-22 of period Prolactin, Progesterone.
When we have all those results we will give You treatment plan.

Hallo Doctor I was planning to come for ivf I have had a few correspondence with excellent feedback from your. End. However I have had a scan recently and was told I have mild polycystic ovaries. Please can you advice if I can have fertility treatment and which one before I resort to ivf and if you do the treatments in your clinic and the cost. Many thanks
Att: Sharriffa
In case of polycystic ovaries and doing IVF it is risk of developing ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome as You can get a lot of follicles growing.
Therefore even if You go for IVF we will have to do carefully controlled mild treatment to avoid complications.
There may be another options apart from IVF, but to give You proper advice we need to know semen analysis results for Your husband and Your HSG report to see if fallopian tubes are open. You can forward these results to nairobiivf@gmail.com.

IS IT A MUST THAT YOU MUST HAVE A SPOUSE FOR YOU TO UNDERGO THIS PROCESS AND WHAT INITIAL PROCEDURES CAN I UNDERGO BEFORE SEEING YOU WITH THE HELP OF MY CURRENT MEDICAL COVER? HOW LONG IS THE TREATMENT AND DO YOU HAVE DONORS FROM EUROPE OR OTHER PARTS OF AFRICA OTHER THAN KENYA?
LASTLY I NEED TO WORK WITH AN OVERALL COST. CAN THIS BE ADVISED, WHAT ARE YOUR WORKING HOURS DURING THE WEEK/WEEKENDS AND HOW PRIVATE CAN THIS INFO AND PROCESS BE KEPT WITH THE DOCTOR?
My husband and I decided to pursue the IVF at the Nairpbi center. We di the procedure last month and it was a success, we are PREGNANT. OOh boy how that feels good. Thank you Dr Noreh, Olegs and the entire staff at the center. Good luck everyone.
Congratulations Alisha, that is wonderful.

Congratulations SWM, that is fantastic.

Thank you Sue. Thank you.
Bn married 4 5 yrs but not conceived.Pelvic ultrasound in 2008 showed I was ok,however,my hubbys spermanalysis revealed the sperm count as less than 0.1,and non motility 95%.What method cud help us have just one child. We r desperate.
So to speak the overall cost would be about 450,000.00! What if the exercise is a failure, then I lose all this money! As far as I am aware I do not have any fertility problems but need a guarantee that at least there is some re-imbursement, this is really expensive and scary without positive results!
if i do ivf while having hydrosalphinx . what is the pregnancy success rate . what is the likelyhood of miscarriaging due to this problem
Hellow am planning to come at your clinic early of January 2012 at that time I will be starting my period if I came with my result of hormon and HIV and onother test we can do at your clinic my question is that is that possible to do the ivf at that month which is January because my Husband has limit of time please advice.
Regards
Vig
Do you do IVF wth sarrogacy?
What is the likely cost?
Thank you
Sarah,
Sperm count less than 0,1 and 95 % immobile means spermatozoa are very few and most of them do not move, but there are still some functional sperms available and we can pick them out for injection (ICSI). The success rate with this sperm quality may be 5-10% lower that normal, but we have done number of cases like this with good outcome.
Best regards,
Olegs Tucs
Atieno,
Unfortunately this is the case in IVF. You pay for attempt and there is no reimbursement if the attempt fails. In this case the clinic will give You discount for the next attempt.
Best regards,
Olegs Tucs
Mary,
Hydrosalphinx has to be removed before IVF because fluid there is toxic for embryos.
Best regards,
Olegs Tucs
Vig,
Yes, we can start IVF in first 3 days of Your period. So when You have it this month, come straight to us with the results and we will start Your treatment.
