To date this is certainly my favourite response to the letter I sent to IVF clinics – and it’s not just because he thinks this site is fantastic! It is so clear that Dr. Banerji really read and understood what I was asking and then took the time to answer all of my sixteen questions directly and fully. On top of that it was a fast response – the morning after I sent the email.
If you check out their website at http://www.idealfertility.com you will find some excellent information, their email address is dpankar@idealfertility.com. There are also the costs for local accomodation within 1 km of the clinic given on the website.
Since Dr. Banerji has answered my questions so directly to save you having to go between my letter and this response I have added the questions that I asked in red.
I think the big thing that has really warmed me to Dr. Banerji is that his response is full yet personal and I feel a real honesty coming through, along with a real pride in the work that they do. This clinic will certainly be on my short list!

I went through your site mentioned. It was fantastic
I am putting my heart to tell the truth of my center, so that you can help yourself or help others if you feel we are capable enough to handle the international patients.
IVF is a process needs complete transparency with the couple undergoing the treatment .There should be freindly and most informal dicussion between the doctor and the couple. I never believe in counsellor.
Its me, who the couple should believe, and has full right to watch my work. We are total in-house working team. I am a gynecologist and my wife is one of the best embryologist (a qualified pathologist). Now I am answering the questions
1. What is the current success rate for your clinic? (preferably by age as I know that the success rate will be much lower for somebody of my age)
1. Success rate : < 30 yrs. 45.2%, 30-35yrs 23% and above 35yrs. 10-12%. There are number of factors which affects success rate even in low age group
2. How many cycles do you perform per year at the clinic?
2. Number of cycles per yr. 500 to 600
3. What is the maximum age that you treat?
3. We treat upto 55-60 yrs. After 38-39 we prefer egg donation.
4. Are there any fertility conditions that you will not treat?
4. no professional surrogacy or egg donation.
5. What is your embryo transfer policy? How many embryos will you replace at one time?
5. Embryo transfer policy: We do Day 5 blastocyst transfer. 2-3 maximum (as blstocysts are usually less in number), We do not do single embryo transfer. To lessen the multiple pregnancy rate, we stimulate with less drugs and get less eggs, but good quality eggs. Lesser the embryos, better the embryos and go to blastocyst. Only best embryos goes to blastocyst and then transfer them.
6. What is the basic cost of the IVF treatment?
6.Cost of IVF : US$ 2500 and ICSI US$ 3000
7. What additional costs would / could be incurred?
7. No other costs involved for the treatment (no hidden cost), lodging boarding extra.
8. What happens to the costs if the cycle has to be abandoned?
8. Cycle cancellation because of poor stimulation (less than 3 eggs) : cost of used drugs, investigation charges, our consultation fee, sonography charges are taken, rest of the money is given back (the amount is on sole descretion of the doctor, but usually it is half of the amount).
9. How long would I need to be in India for?
9. In India : you need to stay for one month – one and half month. It can be reduced if part of the treatment is started in parent country. Then we reduce the cost those drugs what couple used from our charges, but it is our cost in India.
10. Who deals with the logistics of flights and accommodation?
10. Logistics of flight and accomodation : definitety we help. In my site it is there, how to reach us. Accomodation is there and to and from airport taxi facility is there at an extra cost.
11. How is the pre-treatment carried out?
11. Preparation of treament: Usually the reports are asked first to assess the ovarian reserve, endometrial lining and semen and cycle regularity. One oral contraceptive is started form day 2 and we call them on day 17 of the cycle before finishing the OCs. Injection luprolide is started on 17th or 18th tablet of OCs. OCs finishes on 22nd day of cycle and Injection continues .After the withdrawal period of OCs, we assess the aievement of Down regulation. It is either by sonography and/or Estradiol. After that we start Actual gonoadotropins, we use highly purified Gonoadotropins ( if couple wishe for recombinant one then the cycle cost will be more), but highly purified gives same results.
12. How do I get medication?
12. Medications can be sent through courier ( but it is difficult, because of regulations), hence we tell patients to come to us for full treatment.
13. How will I be monitored?
13. Monitoring is usually by sonography. If required we do hormones.
14. How will I know that I am not being under / over stimulated?
14.For hyper /under stimulation: you can see the sonography screen and if required estradiol assay.
15. If I have a problem whilst in the UK who would I go to?
15. In UK where to go : I do not know the health care facility there.
16. Is the clinic registered with any regulatory body?
16. Clinic is ISO 9001-2000 test tube baby center: JAS-ANZ.
Any thing you need extra: It is given in my web site: About Us page
Hope this will help.
If you can do an advocay campaign for indian centers to get recognised by NHS then treatment will be cheaper and faster. We are equipped with state of the art instruments of world and with worldclass disposables.
It was a long answer, but I liked your questions.

i would like to know the best and successful doctor at delhi for ivr as my tube are damage
Hi Geeta,
It is so difficult to judge who is the best and most successful doctor – partly because they tend to use different statistics to record success.
It would be great if anybody who has used a clinic in Dehli, or anywhere else in the world, would be kind enough to share their experiences and recommendations.
All the best, and do let us know how you get on.
Sue
I think you can try Gangaram Hospital. They have some of the best doctors. Their published records too are good. You can contact Dr. Sweta Mittal.
I think a cost of 1,50,000.00 INR is what is actually required. In some cases it can be lower still – as low as 70,000.00 INR (But not in Gangaram).
Another good doctor in Delhi is Dr. Archana Dhawan Bajaj
Hi Partha,
Thank you for the information and costs – very useful.
All the best,
Sue
i want to know best ivf centre at jaipur -rajasthan and what is cost of ivf at jaipur
and i also want to know that is this procedure painfull or normal.
Hi Neeraj,
It is very difficult to assess which is the “best” clinic anywhere, especially since even success rates do not seem to be calculated in the same way for all clinics.
Having not yet been through the procedure myself I don’t know how painful it is. If you look at Momofone’s postings at http://www.ivfcost.net/ivf-cost/ivf-cost-at-victory-art-laboratory-malaysia-great-reply she outlines the procedure – she has even done a video of the injections that are required.
All the best,
Sue
Great Post…..
I found your site on stumbleupon and read a few of your other posts. Keep up the good work. I just added your RSS feed to my Google News Reader. Looking forward to reading more from you down the road!
Thanks for sharing….
Dear Sue,
Great website. Thought you and your readers would be interested in my exchange with Dr. Banerji from Ideal Fertiltiy. A disappointing response to say the least.
Rita
Dr. D’Pankar Banerji,
I sent an email to you through your website, but have not heard back from you and am worried that you may not have received it.
My wife and I are hoping that you can assist us in having a baby through ivf with donor eggs.
Some questions:
1). First of all, does your clinic do ivf using donor eggs?
If so,
2). What are your success rates in terms of live births?
3). What is the limit to number of embryos that you transfer in one cycle?
4). We are from Canada and wonder if you have treated other couples from North America, particularly Canada.
5). How many ivf cycles does your clinic do per year?
6). How long has your clinic been operating?
7). What is the cost of an ivf cycle using donor eggs?
Thank you for your time in this matter.

Dear
I did recieve your mail earlier.
We are doing good job here since 10 yrs.
IVF with egg donor Cost: US $ 5000
Your question are regarding our credibility….
How can we assure anybody that we are good, until unless you interact. Better you meet me and see our work and then decide whether you will take treatment from us.
I think writing and mailing is useless and wastage of time.
Bye

Dear Dr. Banerji,
I am disappointed in your response to me. It’s odd because what drew me to your clinic was the praise that you were given by Sue on her ivfcost.net website. I wrote to you directly for a number of reasons including: 1). your response to Sue is dated September 2008 which is 1 1/2 years ago and I wanted current data; 2). my situation is different in that I am in need of an ivf procedure using an egg donor. As well, a friend said that best way to get a true sense of a clinic and the head doctor was to write them directly to see how the email would be answered to an individual. I guess that this was a good suggestion as I can only surmise that your thoughtful answers to Sue were due to the fact that you knew that everything was being published on a public blog. Too bad. I will be sure to update people with your latest response so that others can understand what your true attitude is towards overseas patients. Obviously, anyone travelling as far away from home as we would be doing – we are from Canada – should be researching as thoroughly as possible any clinic that they would be going to. For you to suggest that my research is both “useless and a waste of time” is outrageous and offensive and simply demonstrates to me the lack of indifference and insensitivity that you as a practioner seem to possess. I wonder how you would feel if your wife was seeking the same fertility treatments and tried to gather information and as a result was treated the way you have done to me. Remember, you are not doing me a favour – I am asking you to provide a service that you will be compensated for. I would think that part of the “package” is a back and forth dialogue that includes both patient and doctor getting to know each other.

Wow Rita, this really does show them in a different light! I am so please that you have taken the time to post the correspondence that you have had with them here, I’m sure it will help others. My feelings are definitely in line with yours – it’s an insult to say “writing and mailing is useless and wastage of time”!
Clearly this is NOT the clinic you will be going to but I wish you the very best of luck for whichever clinic you choose. Do let us know how you get on.
All the very best, and thank you again for sharing this.

Dear Sue,
Today, the doctor sent the attached note of apology. I thought in fairness to him and the readers that I should include this, as well. However, in my opinion it is “too little too late”. His initial response reveals where he is really coming from. This note may be sincere however, I think it is damage control on his part.
Rita
Dear
I unconditionally apologise for hurting your feelings and sentiments..
After reading this ,if you still feel to contact me then talk to me directly to my cell +919826166952,I will let you know what experience and treatment I sometime get from overseas clients.
Hope I am slightly successful to reduce your anger.
Again sorry for my bad words.

dear mr sunil
may i know what is her day 2 FSH? 75 KG SHOULD NOT BE A BIG PROBLEM OTHERWISE. sometimes the response is poor due to the stress itself which is caused by the preconceived idea that obesity is not going to give a good result.
in our centre many of our mothers with multiple babies are 70 kg +

Thanks for the post.I learn something new…. Ok , I just want to take the opportunity to advise all pregnant ladies out there….. . within 2 weeks of pregnancy, you should go and see Gynaecologist (and not your regular doctor) to rule out ectopic pregnancy. hi is it possible for a 47yr oldwoman to use her eggs to be put in a surrograte mother, what is the success rate for a 47 year old woman, have you ever used a 47year old womans eggs or older
I would like to know the total cost of IVF treatment including medicines .and Guarntee of suceesful treatment . i want to know best ivf centre.
Dear Vikas,
The postings for each clinic on the blog give you a guideline price for IVF, the exact price will depend on your individual circumstances and what medications you require.
There is no guarantee of success in IVF I’m afraid. It is a medical procedure that is dependent on many things from both the clinic and yourselves. You can get an idea of the success rates of individual clinics from their statistics but you have to be very careful of taking too much notice of these as clinics can calculate them differently.
As for which is the best IVF centre, well, I wish I knew!! I look at other peoples personal experience of the centres and how I feel about the way in which the doctors respond to my questions. I suppose if there was one “best” clinic then we would probably all be going there!
I wish you every luck in your journey, and sorry I have not been able to give you a definitive answer to your questions.
All the best,
Sue

Hi Babita,
I have a reader, Vinee, who is struggling to post a comment but would like to ask you a question – please see below.
All the best,
Sue
From Vinee:
I actually wanted to ask Babita who posted a comment on July 15th 2010 on your post about IVF cost in India. Somehow, I am not able to comment but if you can communicate with her and ask her the total cost of IVF and how long did she stay in india, I will appreciate.
Thanks.
