IVF Cost at NewLife, Greece

I have received information on NewLife IVF clinic in Thessaloniki, Greece – their website address is www.newlife-ivf.gr. They have kindly answered the questions in my IVF Cost Letter, which are:

  1. What is the current success rate for your clinic? (preferably by age as I know that the success rate will be much lower for somebody of my age)
  2. How many cycles do you perform per year at the clinic?
  3. What is the maximum age that you treat?
  4. Are there any fertility conditions that you will not treat?
  5. What is your embryo transfer policy? How many embryos will you replace at one time?
  6. What is the basic cost of the IVF treatment?
  7. What additional costs would / could be incurred?
  8. What happens to the costs if the cycle has to be abandoned?
  9. How long would I need to be in ________ for?
  10. Who deals with the logistics of flights and accommodation?
  11. How is the pre-treatment carried out?
  12. How do I get medication?
  13. How will I be monitored?
  14. How will I know that I am not being under / over stimulated?
  15. If I have a problem whilst in the UK who would I go to?
  16. Is the clinic registered with any regulatory body?

The clinic is a new clinic, and therefore does not have succes rates to report, but here are the answers they have given:

1)We are unable to report success rates at the present moment as we are a new Center of Reproductive Medicine (opened June 2010).  All medical and scientific staff are highly qualified and with extensive experience.

2)The cycles that we anticipate to perform the first year are approximately 300, but our facilities can support a workload up to 2500 cycles per year.

3) The maximum age that we treat is up to 50 years old, as specified by the Greek Law.

4)We do not treat HIV positive patients, at the moment, as it is under review by the National Authority for Human Reproduction.

5)According to the Greek Law we obliged to transfer up to 3 embryos in women up to 40 years old and up to 4 embryos above 40 years old.

6)The basic cost of an IVF/ICSI cycle is 3200 euro, excluding medications.

7)The additional costs that may occur in a basic IVF/ICSI cycle are: medications, initial laboratory workup (hormonal profile etc.) and cryopreservation of embryos.

8)The cost will depend on the stage that the cycle is cancelled.

9)For at least 10 days.

10)The patient.

11)It is carried out on an individual basis. Following the initial consultation you can carry out the investigation that we recommend in your own country by your own GP.

12)From your personal health insurance.

13)For patients, staying in Thessaloniki, during the treatment cycle, the monitoring is performed at our Center.

14)The treatment protocol is individualised and your ovarian response will be monitored by sonography and hormone tests to avoid under/over stimulation.

15)Your GP or local hospital. We are available on the phone for any additional information that may be needed 24 hours a day.

16)The Greek Authority for Human Reproduction.

    Hi Mary,

Sorry to hear you have not heard from the clinic. I have forwarded your message to them too, but whether they will answer or not I don’t know. Unfortunately I don’t have any other information on the costs.

    All the best,
    Sue

IVF is a fertility treatment that has helped many patients overcome infertility through safe and effective means. Once the eggs are ready for extraction, which are taken and combined with sperm, either sperm or donor sperm to the woman of the couple, in a dish in a laboratory. The embryos are formed as a result of the selection process and then undertook to determine which embryos are more suitable for transfer to the uterus.
