IVF Cost at New Hope Fertility Centre, Mexico – absolutely fantastic information, a MUST read!!

I became so excited when I received the reply from Dr. Alejandro Chavez-Badiola of the New Hope Fertility Centre in Mexico. I must admit that the feeling that I got was that I had found the place I want to go to! And I thought I had narrowed my choices down to two, one close to home in Hungary (Kaali Inst IVF Centre) and one on the continent I love, Africa (Nairobi IVF Centre) – but this has really put a spanner in the works!

A quick reply to my letter requesting the IVF cost, IVF success rate and IVF procedure – the very next day, and a very thorough reply. Not only that but Dr. Chavez-Badiola is offering something that nobody else has mentioned – Mini-IVF – less drugs, less cost – what more could a gal want!!! I need to get on with the savings – but then again he has also pointed me in a direction where I may be able to make some money to be able to afford this!! I am buzzing!

This reply is a MUST READ, especially if, like me, age is not on your side.

Prices are already in US$. If you want to contact Dr. Chavez-Badiola the email address is a.chavez@badiolaconsultores.com. They don’t appear to have a website though.

I’ll stop rambling now and let you read this superb reply.

Dear Sue,

I will answer your questions ?on the go?. I visited your blog and I was deeply impressed. I found it very comprehensive and therefore I will make a couple of observations at the end of this letter.

Let me start by introducing myself.  My name is Alejandro Chavez-Badiola, I am a gynaecologist with training in reproductive medicine at the largest IVF centre in the UK (the Hewitt Centre for Reproductive Medicine, at the Liverpool Women?s Hospital).  Following this two-year training I pursued further training in NY and Tokyo, where I learned my area of special interest: Minimal stimulation and Natural Cycle IVF.

Since you have done quite a lot of research I will use a more technical language, although feel free to ask for any clarifications if you feel the need. Now, to answer your questions:

1. What is the current success rate for your clinic? (preferably by age as I know that the success rate will be much lower for somebody of my age)

Pregnancy rate per started cycle is 46% (60% per embryo transfer) for traditional IVF and 32% for Minimal stimulation IVF.

Standard IVF pregnancy rates:
<35 yrs:  56%
35 to 38: 48%

38:      36%

Depending on your FSH levels, someone your age will probably have a poor response to stimulation drugs and, no matter how high the hormones? dose we use, you will probably end-up producing fewer eggs than the ?ideal? number (according to traditional IVF standards).  This is where Mini-IVF becomes your allied.

With Mini-IVF, you will be stimulated with oral medication and maybe with some injectable hormones (gonadotrophins), but usually no more than three injections overall.  This stimulation will allow your ovaries to produce only the best quality eggs your body can produce in that specific cycle.  In fewer words, I focus on egg quality rather than quantity.

2. How many cycles do you perform per year at the clinic?

In Mexico only we perform around 500 cycles a year.

3. What is the maximum age that you treat?

As long as you still have regular periods we can offer you IVF with your eggs (no age limit).  As mentioned above, to focus on egg quality rather than total egg number, allow us to offer woman our ?one egg- one embryo- one baby? philosophy.

If willing (or in need) to undergo donor IVF, we have a donors? egg bank where women can choose from (there is no waiting list). For women over 50 years old, their particular cases would have to undergo internal ethics committee approval.

Donors? eggs are cryopreserved with the latest technology called vitrification (Cryotop method), which has shown egg survival rates >98% with fertilisation, implantation and pregnancy rates comparable to those from fresh eggs.  These results have been widely published in reputable journals and results are consistent throughout fertility centres in Italy, Spain, Japan, USA and Mexico.
This is our key to offer eggs from a large database  and without waiting.

4. Are there any fertility conditions that you will not treat?

At the moment we still don?t offer PGD (we will from summer 2009), and therefore gender selection.  We also avoid surrogacy.

5. What is your embryo transfer policy? How many embryos will you replace at one time?

A positive pregnancy test is not what I?m after, but for you to take home a HEALTHY baby.  This is:  to avoid twin pregnancies… triplets or higher order multiple pregnancies are out of the question and are considered by me as a treatment failure.

One of the reasons why IVF centres transfer so many embryos is because their cryopreserving (freezing) techniques are unreliable and they know that only half of those frozen embryos will survive thawing.   With our vitrification technology we know  frozen embryos will survive (>96%), which allow us to transfer fewer embryos but to offer more embryo transfers per started cycle, which at the end make no difference in live-birth rates but they do in multiple pregnancy rates and associated complications.

Having said all of the above, there are no regulations in Mexico regarding embryo transfer and after proper counselling couples decide on final number of embryos to be transferred.

6. What is the basic cost of the IVF treatment?

Based on today?s exchange rate:

– Standard IVF $3,ooo USD (plus medication and blood tests?around $1,ooo to 1,5oo USD)
– Mini-IVF     $2,2oo USD (plus medication and blood test?around $150 USD)
– 3- Month treatment package with Mini-IVF $5,ooo USD (plus medication and blood tests)

Cryopreservation is not included in costs (except in the 3-Month package), which is around 3oo USD

7. What additional costs would / could be incurred?

– Medications
– Initial consultation and tests (which can be performed at home?HIV, hep B&C, etc)
– Bloods during follow-up
– Cryopreservation
– Treatment/ management of IVF related complications (e.g. OHSS- hyperstimulation syndrome)

8. What happens to the costs if the cycle has to be abandoned?

You only pay for what you get; rest of money goes towards your next cycle.  As a very general guide you can divide treatment cost in this way:

– 1/3 for stimulation follow-up
– 1/3 for egg collection and lab expenses
– 1/3 for embryo transfer

So, for example, if a cycle is cancelled before egg collection you will have 2/3 of your money back towards your next IVF cycle. Costs related to drugs are not reimbursed in any situation.

9. How long would I need to be in Mexico for?

If you manage to get your own medication and to have a baseline ultrasound performed at home, then it?s a minimum of 10 days for standard IVF and Mini-IVF; and 6 days for natural cycles.

If you want to have initial consultation/ tests, baseline scan and drugs from us, then we?re talking about 12 to 15 days.

10.Who deals with the logistics of flights and accommodation?

We can help you to get very good deals for accommodation.  We can personally take care for airport-hotel-clinic transportation, but you will have to deal with flights and final reservations (hotel) yourselves.

11. How is the pre-treatment carried out?

Once you ask for treatment I will send you a list of tests you need to up-date (or have done with us if you rather to), and a basic medical history format to fill-out.  Once this is in place, you only have to let us know when you are planning for treatment and call with your menstrual period one month ahead of treatment. This, since depending on your age (probably not in your case), we?d like to prepare your ovaries with a short course of oral contraceptives.

If you?re having baseline scan and drugs at home let us know so we can find a friend doctor to help you out.  We?d like to be in touch with you both (your doctor and you), so we can let you know on the best time to come to us for further surveillance and time of egg collection.

12. How do I get medication?

If you decide to have all done over here, you can get it from us.  If not just let me know where you live and I can get a doctor to hand you a prescription after you have been properly scanned and appropriate dosage established.

13. How will I be monitored?

– Baseline transvaginal scan + day 3 FSH, LH, progesterone (P4), and oestradiol (E2)
– Day 8 follow-up scan + E2, FSH
– Day 10-11 scan + E2, LH, P4
– Day 12-13 scan + E2, LH, P4

More frequent or extended monitoring is required in some cases.

14. How will I know that I am not being under / over stimulated?

According to findings during monitoring, mainly ultrasound examinations and oestradiol levels and FSH levels on initial stimulation bloods.

15. If I have a problem whilst in the UK who would I go to?

– North West England and Wales:  Mr. Andrew Drakeley
- London:  Mr. Luciano Nardo
– Scotland (Aberdeen):  Prof. Mark Hamilton

If none of these are convenient for you I could recommend you some other doctors within these regions or maybe even closer to you.  Remember, I wa trained in the UK and I got to know a lot of very good and reliable IVF doctors over there.

16. Is the clinic registered with any regulatory body?

No for the moment, although we are working towards being eligible to send our data to the ASRM in the USA and to get an NY State certificate for our IVF lab.

17. How long is the waiting list for IVF treatment?

We have an overwhelming capacity, and since IVF is private medicine in Mexico, there is no waiting list for any of our treatments.

Finally, after so much research you have found that statistics are rather easy to manipulate and success rates, most of times only say an incomplete true.  Look for pregnancy rates per started cycle (HFEA statistics are very reliable), and most important to women your age:  pregnancy rates within a time frame… Mini-IVF will offer you the best chances of pregnancy within 6 months as well as the most cost-effective form of treatment.  For more detailed information visit www.newhopefertility.com

Costs in NY are higher than in Mexico, but you can get hold on a lot of info within our website (Mexican website is still on-going work).

Your blog should be sponsored by pharmaceutical companies (keep avoiding adverts from individual doctors or clinics), and if you want to I could get you in touch with a non profit organisation in Mexico called AMI (Mexican Association of Infertility), run by patients as yourself who would very much appreciate all of your hard work.

Congratulations, my best wishes on your enterprise of becoming a mom yourself.

Kind regards,

Dr. Alejandro Chavez-Badiola

Please Sue tell me where did you go for the IVF…I am 44 years old and my FSH tends to go between 4.8 to 11.8. Most of the doctors want me to get an egg donor and I am refusing this option. I have no insurance so I need to get a safe inexpensive reliable place to have my ivf performed. Please help me and tell me where did you have your ivf done. I have spent hours over the internet and I am tired of crying. My depression is getting to me. There are times that I can’t get out of bed. Please help. I will be 45 in November.

    Maureen,

I have not had my IVF yet, but I am seriously looking at the New Hope Centre in Mexico. My problem at the moment is managing to gather the finances! I know what you mean by spending hours over the internet looking, this is exactly what I did and why I set up my blog trying to give the information as it is given to me. I have found that in doing this there are cetain clinics that I get very good feelings about as the Drs are very helpful and forthcoming. Those that hold back or appear a little abrupt I must admit I tend to be dismisive of – how can you put such an emotional thing into the hands of somebody who does not seem to understand how emotional it is?

There are a number of Drs that I have found to be particularly helpful, these include Dr. Alejandro Chavez-Badiola of the New Hope Fertility Centre in Mexico, Mr. Olegs Tucs from Nairobi IVF Centre in Kenya, the Baheti Hospital & Centre for Reproductive Healthcare and Dr. Erfanian IVF Clinic in Iran.

Please don’t get depressed, I am almost the same age as you and have been struggling for the past 10 years to get pregnant, I totally understand your reluctance to use donor eggs – I feel exactly the same and hate being told that I should try it before I have even had a go with my own eggs. We need to think positive and all pull together to share the information that we have. We can do this Maureen, but the tears are not the thing that will make it happen – we must think positively.

When it comes to cost effectiveness although India appears to be the cheapest option I am tending to favour the mini-IVF suggested by Dr. Alejandro Chavez-Badiola as it required less drugs (I hate taking any form of medication!) Try dropping them an email at a.chavez@badiolaconsultores.com to discuss your personal situation, you will find them so helpful.

Remember that there is always somebody else there who knows what you are going through and is happy to listen when you’re feeling low. Get in touch whenever you want and please do let me know how you are getting on.

    Best of luck!

    Sue

    Hello Again Sue,
    Well here is an update!
I have been in contact with Dr. Chavez-Badiola, whom I am sure is very happy with the response he has received from your site.

Well its seems that I will likely be a candidate for the Mini…. I myself have been trying for about 10yrs…

Next Step, find accommodations & flight… Have to add these to the budget…

Although I feel like I am sometimes running out of time. I am still hopeful.
Thanks for the kind words, I know times can be stressful but talking and knowing that there are others out there that we can share or pain, frustration, & knowledge is very relaxing.

feel free to communicate with me.

I think you might want to add a support group forum on your site. for all TTC moms.
So we can laugh, cry and share.

    Elizabeth,

Thanks for the update, I am so excited for you, I wish you the very best of luck.

I think a support forum is a great idea, Momofone had suggested this to me before and I have been looking into it. I’m no whiz on these things so please bear with me as I’m really not sure how to go about it!

I have everything crossed for you!

    Hi Maureen,
if you have the budge, you may want to look at Malaysia, specifically Johor Bahru.
i’m going to use the Victoria ART..i only learned about them because of this site. I just went there today and am going to post.

Sue, it’d be great if we could get people to post their experiences when they use this clinic. I think ultimately, aside from cost, people want to know what the experience is like especially if you are flying around the world. i hope it can happen.
    great site

    Sue,

I have started a website that is focused on IVF options for Intended Parents that are looking into Mexico as an option. There is so little information out there on Mexico and I have included your two posts from your website here. The website is MexicoIVF.org.

Let me know if you are willing to share more of your findings with us. It really helps to hear first hand experiences from others that are going through the same thing.

We also, have an Intended Parent Message Board with 147 members. I just started a section specific to Mexico since I am gather information to go there personally. Most of the board is private so let us know if you are interested in joining. The website is http://www.ipsexpectmiracles.com

So a request to EVERYONE, if you have contacted or used any clinic please do let us know about your experience. If the clinic is not on the blog then if you can send me their contact details I will try to get a posting for them.

We just consulted a doctor and found out that my husband has a very low sperm count. I’m a bit depressed as i know this is an expensive procedure and we are not financially capable of availing such treatment. I was looking for some info(cost & all) from the Philippines and found none. This means that if in the future we want to undergo an IVF and get better results we have to go abroad cause they are more experienced in doing this.. So stressful!!

I think that sue deserves free services for promoting Dr.. Alejandro Chavez-Badiola or at least 50% discount. I thank you for your detailed information on IVF doctors. It is people like you who make the world of trying to be a mom the greatest joy.

Fortunately I have been blessed to have children and with my last child. I received so much pressure from DR & Husband to get a tubal ligation that I signed the dotted line to have it done. I have since then regretted that decision and want to have one more prior to removal of female organs. I have had problems with my reproductive system for many years. I was told by a doctor that I would never have children bu God My Dr.. Guided a Shepard to do a surgical procedure that would change my life forever. I got pregnant back to back I had 3 children in 2 years I said that right these were single pregnancies.

So now I am on the journey to having another baby I don’t know how successful it will be I am 33 so still young so I hope that it can happen for me.

I wanted to give you all some encouragement when the Dr says no God says yes. You may not even have faith but learn to have it and I assure you that you will get that bundle of joy that you have longed for. You just have to have a enough faith as small as a grain of a mustard seed which is small. Just hold on and don’t give up it will happen. If I can be any encouragement to anyone I am here to listen if you want to talk and if you need someone to talk to you and you have a ear I am here…

    God Bless,

    Tianna

  25. Comment by admin

    Tianna,

Thank you so much for your words of encouragement, you are absolutely right that belief plays a really big part.

I am so pleased you managed to get the children that you so wanted against all the odds and I would like to wish you every luck on succeeding again. To have somebody to talk to who will listen and understand the situation is so important and I would like to thank you for offering your ear to all those that are embarking on this journey – you’re a gem!

    Best of luck!

Hi everyone I guess i should have told you that i have been incontact with Dr. Chavez-Badoila for a few months and get a good feeling about him but the whole process is making me nervous. I am new to writing on a blog. Thanks starting it. My husband and I both have issues and we have been trying for 5 year now. I recently found out that I have PCOS i knew that I have endometriosis and a uterine dildelphys but we went in for tests last year to see what our options where and his sperm count is very low that the dr said we would need ICIS has anyone heard of that and the sucess rate? My husband is a mexican citizen so we are planning to this fall and stay a month i hope everything goes as planned thanks for lstening to me rant

  30. Comment by Momofone

    Hi Amber,
I’m in the middle of IVF right now (read my journey under the malaysia Victoria ART)

Victoria ART does ICIS. all that means is they inject the sperm into the egg. this, IMO is much better…its also better for male sperm problems.

there are 2 ways to fertilize an egg, one naturally, you just mix sperm and egg in petri dish. the other is to inject a single sperm…usually guaranteeing higher success…but this is where the skill and expertise of your embryologist is critical.

really the IVF process isn’t bad at all. I would say the 2 week wait sucks the most because you really want it to work. I wasn’t stressed and didn’t react to the suppression or stimulation drugs.

hang in there…its not bad. good luck

I cint to be in contact with the clinic in Guadalajara and now they want to start me on folic acid twice a day 4mg which if you buy it over the conter that is ten pill each dose has anyone taken this much before? Any side affects?

  34. Comment by Momofone

no there are no side effects, the folic acid helps prevent spinal problems, not enough and the baby’s spine or skull won’t close. This actually happened to my friend. She had to terminate at 16 weeks because the skull didn’t close. So take the folic acid

  35. Comment by Dr Chavez-Badiola

    Dear Amber,

There are no known side effects related to follic acid, however, 8mg a day is far more than recommended by any scientific published evidence. For any woman with no previous history of malformations 0.4 mg is the recommended dose, while 4mg is recommended for those with previous history of babies with neural tubal defects.

I wonder who are you in touch with in Guadalajara?

  36. Comment by amber

    Dr. Chavez-Badiola,

I am in touch with your embryologist Sofia Soto the mexican institute of infertility and clarified the dose twice. I also have tries to get an answer if i need to have any test done and if I need to cont on my birth control pills. I am planning on meeting with the team in sept 2009 and am getting nervous. I hope they email back soon with the answers I need. Thanks for all the comments.

I am 39 years old. I have a 20 year old daughter and have been married to my second husband for 6 years. We underwent IVF in August of 2007 due to my blocked tube. I became pregnant with multiples but mis-carried at 9 weeks. We have not been able to afford the $8,500 to try again. My Dr. is willing to donate all of my meds, but the cost for his services alone is$4,000, then the hospital and the operating room, then ICSI, which we don’t need. This would be ideal and wonderful if it is all true and we would love to know how it is going for you.

    Leslie,
I am 27 and have had alot of health issues at 21 I underwent surgery for stage 4 endometreosis then was put on lupron depot for a year which put me into menopause. At htat time I was told I have a double uterus. After that I had to take hormones to regulate myself. We tried to get to get pregnant for 3 years but my periods where so painful I went back on birth control. I assumed it was only me with issue so wee went last year to a fertilty clinic I was then alo informed that I have PCOS and my husband has a very low sperm count. So In vitro with ICIS is our only option. Good luck with everything. I have been saving for a while we plan on going to mexico for treatment.

I know I am just about out of time, but I still have the rest of this year. I read the info from Dr. Chavez-Badiola and emailed him. I hope he answers me and can fit us in. Hi Leslie,

Sorry for the delay in replying but I have been away.

Thank you so much for your comment. I am very sorry to hear about your past experience with IVF, it must have been devastating. I really understand the issues of not being able to afford the treatment in countries such as the US and the UK – I assume that you are from the US, I am from the UK and the prices are out of my reach. The whole reason I started this site was to try to find some alternative affordable solution and it has been stunning as to how much cheaper you can get treatment in other countries. As for ourselves, we are still at the saving stage and are actually finding that the problem is less about the cost of the treatment when you look at some of the prices, but more about how much extra it will cost us for flights and accommodation. We would dearly love to have the mini IVF in Mexico – I hate medication of any form and this would suit me very well – but being from the UK the flights and the accommodation are going to set us back at least the same amount again – so we’re still saving!

Dr. Chavez-Badiola has been brilliant at answering questions from people and I do know that a number of people have at least begun their IVF treatment with the clinic – I’m hoping they are going to give us some feedback on their experiences.

I wish you the very best of luck,
    Sue

    Dr. Chavez,

I’ve heard that a mini-IVF requires the use of clomid. Is it possible to do this procedure with out clomid? Back in 2002, I under went 6 cycles of clomid and was told I could no longer be treated with that medication. I have PCOS, I’ve had irregular bleeding (hemoraging) 3 times that has resulted in transfussions, I have one completely blocked tube, the other is partialy blocked and my last 3 pap smears have come back abnormal. I’m scheduled for a colpolscopy in July for further diagnosis.

I just tried (June) regular IVF here in Nevada, USA and after spending lots of money my husband and I were told we only had one successful fertilize egg to transfer. Our transfer won’t happen until August of this year. But I got the feeling from my doctor that he wasn’t too sure the egg was going to survive the thaw out process and development period before the transfer. He mentioned a possible bad batch of eggs. I was completely surprised by this news. It never occurred to me that my eggs (6) wouldn’t fertilize. What are the reasons for this? Do you currently use the ICSI procedure in you clinic?

    Sue,

Thank you so much for the compilation of information on the clinics, services etc.
It is quite useful to me (and many others as I can already see).

Do you know of anyone who has gone through ivf treatment with Dr. Badiola.

What about Elizabeth Rodriguez, Jacqueline, Amber or anyone else. Have any of you started or going through the IVF treatment at this clinic? I would like to get some more information about this process.

I understand that the New Hope fertility in Mexico is not opened as of yet. Is Dr. Badiola practicing somwhere else in the mean time/at this time while to clinic is builidng?

What initial tests do I need to get done?

Is there a telephone number for Dr. Chavez-Badiola?

    I’d appreciate response(s)

    Thanks.

    Hi everyone,
I have had tests done here by a infertility specialist which include an ultrasound to eval my uterus,MRI, blood work and a dye test where they inject dye into your uterus to evak your tubes. Sorry I dont remeber the names of all these tests. My husband has had two SA I cont to be in contact with MII in Guadaljara and pln to travel there in september. Dr. Chavez-Badoila is the medical director there. In emails from him he states that he is not always there but he will reveiw my case and met with us on our intial visit. I am unsure of how much of the process he is involved in. The Dr. also sent me a check list of the test that need to be completed and is reviewing my files to let me know if there is anything else that I need to have done here before we travel.

I’ve looked at website however the address in the states. Where is the Mexico clinic located? I’m in canada and have gone through all the tests and have been advised by my fertility doctor that IVF would be best option for results, however the fee is 10,000 +. Looking for a price that I can afford, that is not within United States. Please advise of location.

    Thanks

    Ginger,

The contact details for the clinic are:
Torre Médica San Javier, Quebec- 4° Piso Guadalajara Providencia Mexico 44630
    Tel: +52 (33) 36793560
    Email: a.chavez@badiolaconsultores.com

I think you will find them much more affordable than the $10,000+ you have been quote in the USA.

    Lori,

I believe that some readers have had treatment here but as yet we do not have any feedback from them. I am looking to use Dr. Alejandro Chavez-Badiola but am still saving – for me it is a long way to travel as I am in the UK. I know that some people from the USA look to Brazil and Argentina but I don’t have any information on these. I would suggest that you give Dr. Alejandro Chavez-Badiola a call and see how you feel about the responses you get (the number is on the comment response above), and if there is anybody reading this who has used the clinic we would love to hear about your experiences.

    All the best,
    Sue

How long does it typically take to get a response from Dr. Alejandro Chavez-Badiola? I sent an email to him after your reply to the location of the clinic with contact information @10 days ago and still have not received a response back. Is there an email address that goes to the clinic directly to get a more timely response to my inquiry?

  54. Comment by admin

    Hi Ginger,

Normally Dr. Chavez-Badiola responds very quickly so I am suprised that you have not heard anything. I have forwarded your comment to the email address which I use, which is
a.chavez@badiolaconsultores.com – this is the only email address I have – and hopefully you should hear something very soon.

    Hi Ladies,

I see many good reviews about Dr. Chavez Badiola however I would be very weary before moving forward with him. First of all, there is no New Hope Clinic in Guadalajara yet. He is contracting and working out of different hospitals. Also, he takes forever to answer and seems to be lost with all the information. I have been waiting for him to reply about my medication for almost 2 months and keep having to delay my treatment. I am finally fed up an will be looking elsewhere. Sure the prices might be good (and Im not sure how accurate his success rates are), but dont forget that you get what you pay for!

  56. Comment by admin

    Hi Melissa,

Thank you very much for your comment, it is so good to hear about peoples personal experience with a clinic and I am sure that the feedback you have provided will be of interest to many, myself included. I have always found Dr. Chavez-Badiola to be very prompt in replying to my messages, however these are all inquiries regarding treatment and not at a stage when I am on the verge of undergoing treatment as you are.

Has anybody else had any first hand experience here?

    Thanks
    Sue

  57. Comment by L

sent Dr. Chavez and email to get more information and he did respond back asking me to fill out a form. I just sent that off to him so hopefully will hear back soon. If someone has done IVF in Mexcio before we would love to hear about it. We are saving up for a second cycle at the end of Decemember.

  58. Comment by Melissa

    Hi L,

I found that the initial contact was OK however once things get more serious and you start asking questions and wait for replies and schedule dates, you will see the lag in response. I dont know about anybody else but if I am traveling to have this done, I expect everything to be ironed out for me. I think this Dr. is too unorganized for international clientele to be honest. I heard there is a new clinic that will be opening, just for North American patients which should be very organized. I will keep you all posted!

  59. Comment by Julie

I have been trying to schdule mini-ivf with Dr. Chavez-Badiola, but have not had any luck. I did receive an initial response to fill out a form but there was no form attached and he never did respond back. The agency I was contacting him through (free of charge agency) got him to say I could do a mini-ivf but when they asked him to schedule it, there has been no response. They are now recommending a clinic in Panama to me becaus of the lack of response. Has anyone actually scheduled a mini-ivf wit him?

  60. Comment by Natascha

I talked to Sofia Soto-embryologist in Mexico. I received higher prices through her than what is posted here through Dr. Badiola. I also wanted info on credentials and brochures and did not receive them. “New Hope Fertility in Mexico” does not exist anywhere on the web as of yet. Sofia is somehow connected to the “Mexican Institute of Infertility” but I don’t understand quite how. I also did not receive answers to questions regarding scheduling and planning, which exact test I should do here and which ones I should not do even though my RE here has ordered them. I wanted to know if I could do an GYN Ultrasound in Mexico so I could maybe save some money since my RE here is very pricey. I also asked Sofia what the doctor’s name is/are and did not receive any names or direct phone numbers or exact affiliations even though she has been prompt with emailing me back. It seems unorganized and not very transparent to me. I tried to find other clinics in Mexico but they are pretty much all in Spanish which I don’t understand. Can somebody point me in the right direction or knows some medical travel planner (small or big company) which are affordable but are only affiliated with certified clinics etc. I contacted Sculptura but they cost too much with $ 10,000 or more for the IVF with Hotel. I really would like to find something in Mexico with genuine success reports from former patients I could maybe contact. Thanks.

    Hi Natascha,

This is very interesting information and I really appreciate you sharing it with us. Unfortunately I do not know of another clinic in Mexico with proven success rates, the only other clinic that responded to me in Mexico has the same problem as you stated – their website is all in Spanish although they responded to me in good English.

If anybody has any experience of a Mexican clinic we would all be very grateful for your feedback.

    All the best,

visitandcare.com helps to arrange international medical treatment. They have been helping me. I noticed they have removed New Hope Mexico from their list. Living in San Diego we are going with IECH. The Doctor’s speak English, but the staff doesn’t so it is hard to set-up appointments, but once there everything is fine. They have a website with information in English and Spanish.

The clinic is 2-3 minutes from the border.

I started a website to compile the information that I could find about IVF in Mexico.

    Hi All,

    Once again I have to say how fantastic this site is. I wept tears of relief and gratitude when I found it – so thank you and many blessings for doing this kind work! I have tried to cantact Dr Chevez-Badiola and unfortunately have not received a response – I was very disappointed after reading about how quickly the Dr replies and how willing he is to answer questions. My questions were;
Does the Mexico clinic do ivf by sperm donor? Do they have vailable donors? What is the cost for this? Does anyone know the answers and also what is the best way to contact Dr Chavez?

    Thanks

Dr. Chavez-Badiola new clinic has a soft open in Oct. with the official Grand opening scheduled for Oct. 24th. That might be why he is a little slow on getting back to people right now.

M1tsouko, I think that all of the clinic’s should work with you and a sperm donor. They should have some available or you can make your own arrangements and have them shipped to the clinic.

Email me if you have any questions at info@MexicoIVF.org

  69. Comment by Sandy Z.

I have corresponded with Dr. Badiola on several occasions. He is usually quick to respond but at times I have waited more than a few days for a response. Dr. Badiola is handling all the correspondence and communications to English-speaking patients while practicing and seeing clients so I am sure he is overwhelmed with e-mails. Dr. Badiola always supplies thoughtful and complete responses so keep trying to e-mail him. I have also spoken to him twice and he is very competent and accommodating. Trying to call his office would be the best way to reach him immediately, if he isn’t in with a patient. I have my appt. set for December and am looking forward to getting this process started! Good luck to all of you.

    Hi M1tsouko,

I have had a reply from Dr. Chávez-Badiola and he says:

    Dear Sue,

Thank you so much, as allways.

Yes, we have sperm donors both from USA (700 USD) and Mexico (300 USD). Sperm donation cost is on top of baseline cost for the required fertility treatment (e.g. Mini-IVF, IUI).

Please, let this lady contact me directly to the following e-address: drchavez-badiola@nhfc.com

    Best regards,

    Dr. Chávez-Badiola

    I hope this helps.

    Best of luck,

  72. Comment by admin

    Dear Robin,

When something that we so desperately want does not happen it is like going into mourning, and we all mourn in our individual ways. The thing you need to hold on to is that in this day and age miracles can happen – techniques such as IVF are our miracle! We just need to take the brave step out of mourning and into action – much easier said than done, I know, I have been finding it very hard.

I wish you so much luck, if there is anything I can do to help with information etc. please just shout.

The reply to Suzanne from Dr. Chavez-Badiola was:

    Dear Sue,

Age is not a problem when trying to attempt for a pregnancy with own eggs provided patients have regular periods such as this lady has.

Transferring more than 2 embryos is not advisable since this would not increase overall chances of achieving a pregnancy considering current cryopreserving techniques available.

Please, let this lady contact me directly should this be of further help to clarify her initial queries.

    Best regards,

    Alejandro

    Dear Sue,
I cannot thank you enough for the info on your site. I’m 41 and have been trying to get pregnant for about 5 years now. I’ve never been able to afford IVF as my husbands insurance does not cover it. So you can imagine how ecstatic I was to hear about Mini IVF at New Hope in Mexico as well as here in NY! (I live in NJ)

I’ve contacted both and heard back from both promptly. I will hopefully be starting my Mini IVF ( as soon as paperwork is in order, insurance may cover initial visit and testing…) in NY and finishing in Mexico. I have my consultation in NY on November 16th and will keep you informed of my progress.

I really feel blessed to have happened upon you site!!!You have done a wonderful thing here and I’m forever grateful no matter what occurs!!! You have given me the information I needed to move forward finally!!! Thank you so much!!!
Big hugs!! I’ll keep you posted on what happens and when.

A group meet-up sounds like a great idea – can anybody contact you if they will be in the area for treatment in December? Is it something that may happen again at some time if people miss the December meet-up?

    All the best,
    Sue

  80. Comment by Jon

    Sue,

There are a few couples in Mexico in Nov. and a few more in Dec. This includes Sandy who posted on this page who will also be in Guadalajara during this time.

10-14 days is a long time to spend in a foreign country and having some friends going through the same process really helps.

I expect that many groups will be going there in the near future.

We have done some of our pre-testing in Tijuana. The bloodwork cost was $300 in the US and $105 in Mexico. The sperm analysis was $142 in the US was $40 in Mexico. An ultrasound $225 in the US was $40 in Mexico.

We have also bought meds in Tijuana many times and have had no problems bringing them back across the border.

The cost savings are huge and well worth the trip.

    Talk to you soon.

    Jon

My husband had a vas-reversal and 10 months out we have no sperm seen. We both have children from previous marriages but desperately want one (more) together. With having 4 kids already affording another one isnt going to be easy but family is more than material stuff so we are ready, but now we have to pay for treatment. Here in the US it is out of our budget (which is not alot) What would be the first thing that needs to be done? Does the clinic in Mexico offer IVF/ICSI using TESA or MESA. Is anyone here needed the same thing?

  86. Comment by christina

    Lindsay,
We to are having to go to Mexico for treatment but still trying to come up with the money. They do the IVF/ICSI. That is going to be our direction cause I have no tubes (doc just took them out). I talked to the doctor in Mexico and he was very nice and did speak english. We are having to come up with a total of about 7,000 dollars for everything. That includes our stay there, the plane tickets and the pay that my husband is going to have to miss at work cause he dont get paid vacations, also pays for the entire IVF/ICSI cycle and the TESE as well. You can email me if you have any questions that I may have answers for. We are trying some fund raisers and other stuff trying to get ahead on this deal. Good luck to you as well.

  87. Comment by Lindsay

    Christina,
I am just curious as to if the clinic in Mexico is going to do the TESA. Did you have all of your pre-screening done first or are they going to do it? By chance what State are you in? I have been trying to find out how far it is from where I am at but I havent been able to.
Thanks in advance for your help,

    Lindsay,
Sorry it took so long to get back on here, been out. We have not done the rest of our testing yet and I did talk to the doc himself and he did say that they would do the TESA. Where are you at? The price was quoted to me like this. TESA-$800.00, IVF-$2700 and 400 in aneth. fees. My grand total with TESA is $3900. We are still saving and getting our passports to do the treatment. We are in San Antonio, TX, where are you at?

  90. Comment by Lindsay

I am in San Angelo, Tx. Have you already had your tests done and a consult with the clinic in Mexico yet? I cant even find a map to see how far it is from me. Are you driving or flying? I am just curious since their is a high profile clinic in San Antonio why did you choose to go to Mexico instead? Did you get a packet from the doc to fill out and then he sent you a list of tests to do? We will need ICSI. Was that price quote for each round or does he have a multi-cycle discount?
    Thanks,

Hi Sue, Things are going well over here. I had my initial consultation with Dr. Zhang and even a phone conversation with Dr. Badiola. I’m very lucky in that my insurance will cover the tests and monitoring in NY. So we will be doing that with Dr. Zhang, then flying to Mexico just for the ER and FET. My tests checked out and they say my chances are pretty good with Mini IVF!

I’m going to go back to my acupuncturist in December and during stimulation. I hear that that really increases your chance with IVF. Although I need to find an acupuncturist in Guadalajara for the day of the transfer. Do you or anyone else know of any? I’ll let you know how it goes. And again…..thank you!

My partner and I have been trying for our first baby for over 4 years now and have yet to be successful. We have undergone several rounds of IVF and each time the embryo was rejected by my body. I have tried several other alternative remedies such as the miracleofpregnancy.com which was useful but did not work for us. A friend of ours whom is in a similar position has tried the Pregnancy Miracle which has worked for them on the first attempt, we are really happy for them both as they too have been trying for nearly as long as ourselves. Has anyone else ever tried this or is it just coincidence do you think?

  95. Comment by admin

    Dear Lazarus,

I am so excited for you, it is certainly great news that your chances are pretty good with mini-IVF.

I have also heard that acupuncture is supposed to be very good in conjunction with IVF. The problem here in the UK is finding a decent practitioner – I did have one years ago for a problem with my shoulder and he was brilliant, but has long since retired. Other people who have used acupuncturists have had very little success at all – so it seems that it is a case of finding the right practitioner. Unfortunately I don’t know of any in Mexico, but perhaps somebody else does.

All the very, very best, and do keep us informed as to how you are getting on.
    Sue

    Hi Sue,

Speaking of acupuncture, you can buy this book:
    http://www.amazon.com/Infertility-Cure-Ancient-Wellness-Pregnant/dp/0316172294
(read the user reviews, they are amazing!)

    UK Amazon: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Infertility-Cure-Ancient-Programme-Pregnant/dp/0316159212/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1259797148&sr=8-1

It’s for self-help with acupuncture and TCM. While this book is not 100% proper TCM, it’s very useful and is worth every penny spent on it. It might be a better doctor then those you find around…

As for TCM itself, it’s much more powerful then making you relax before IVF. It treats diseases by bringing the body into balance. Sometimes your body needs just a little push to come into balance. Sometimes it should be something bigger and longer. I’ve been practicing TCM for the past 3 years on my own. It doesn’t seem to be anything wrong with me in terms of fertility, but we have male factor that doesn’t want to go away. My husband used to have varicocele, TCM pills dissolved it over a few months. His numbers became better but still not normal. He has a chronic medical condition which made his body “cold” and his numbers low. I’m currently cooking herbs for him so he doesn’t take the medication, but it works SO-O-O-O slowly because he already screwed up his stomach with the stupid life-time prescription that didn’t do $hit for him. I suspect I’m the best TCM doctor around because nobody treats conditions like that. And I really don’t have life time to wait till he’s treated.

The clinic very much exists – http://www.nhfc.mx. I have a few photos that I would upload if I knew how.

I just spent the last week in Guadalajara and visited with Dr. Chavez a few times. Yes, his clinic exists and the building is very nice and in a safe part of town.

However, his surgical center and embryo lab are not up and running. This is still a few months away. At this time, he is only consulting with patients and doing the ultrasounds and pre-testing at the New Hope office. The egg retreival, embryo transfer and storage is happening at IMI. At his location he has yet to do a transfer.

We chose to go with IMI for standard IVF and only worked with their office for our treatment and had a great experience.

We spent most of our free time in GDL with Sandy who was in town going to Dr. Chavez for the Mini-IVF.

Both of us will gladly share our experience with the two clinics if you are planning on going and would like additional information about our trip just send either of us an email.

I know that IVF/ICSI cost in Mexico is very reasonable. I created a webpage (ivf-affordable.com) regarding to my experience in Matamoros, Mexico. I invite to you all read it. If you need more information you can consult with with Dr. Garza directly either following link http://www.institutovida.com/Consulta.asp?Id=3 or through my website http://ivf-affordable.com/contact_us
Dr. Garza Morales does respond each e-mail personally. I am so gratful to him I don’t think I could have had my baby girl in my first IVF. She is our joy. She is a very happy and healthy baby. I have recently went through my second trial but I lost it at 8th week. Dr. Garza did tell me he didn’t find anything wrong with the fetus. Dr. Garza told me I should try it again next Spring.
One thing is very good about him is that his VIDA IVF Clinic is very close to Brownsvile, TX border. You can even walk to his clinic. I have a google map link in my website to how to get his clinic. Please don’t hesitate to send me an email if you need to know more about Dr. Garza or his clinic in Matamoros.

    May God Bless you.

Our experience in Guadalajara was great. We were very happy that we went with IMI and Dr. Ruvalcaba

Our first Beta is in and we are pregnant.

20 days past egg retrieval OR 17 days past a 3 day transfer our Beta is in and it’s strong.

    Hi Lady_from_Texas,
I was just curious about Matamoros. What was your cost there for everything? I called him yesterday and talked to him and sounded very professional. Did you do the Standard, Mini, Natural? How many attempts are you on with his clinic? You can email me at ivf.britt@yahoo.com We plan to go to him in March for treatment. Thank you for all the information that you can provide. We live in San Antonio. What part of Texas are you? Thanks again

    chris

  105. Comment by Lady_From_Texas

    Dear Chris,

You can read my story at http://www.ivf-affordable.com. The website I created is under construction. Next visit to Dr Garza I have take some pictures and get more information about his staff. Our IVF+ICSI plus all doctor visits, biopsy on my husband to get sperms and the medications did cost around $4500 Dollars. I don’t think I could got it in the States with this kind of price and care. I got pregnant on my first IVF and gave a natural birth to my baby girl. She will be soon 2 year old. I tried for my second baby on last year and lost my after 8 weeks and 2 days. Dr Garza did autopsy on the fetus and didn’t find any problem. He told us we should try again around March-April 2010. We will be traveling again end of next month (whenever my period decides to come!) to try one more time.

Regarding to Matamoros; it is not a very pretty city. I recommend you guys to stay in Brownsville. There are hotels with weekly and monthly rate if you don’t want to spend too much. You can also stay in South Padre Island to have vacation during the IVF. Relaxing may help. Crossing to Mexico there is no check point or line but getting back to US there is always long wait. Don’t forget to carry your passports! We usually drive to Dr. Garza’s office. It is less stressful.

Dr. Garza is a great doctor and very modest one. He will try to help in every step on your IVF. Be calm and try to be very positive. Believe in sometimes helps more than you think.

Please keep in touch. You will be in my prayers. May God bless you with a healthy baby.

This question is for jon who went to Tijuana for some of the pe-lab test. You mentioned you got the blood work, medications and ultrasound in Tijuana. Can you give the information as to where you went? I would like to do the same. Every penny counts.
    Thanks,

    Lindsey

  107. Comment by Jon

    Lindsey,

We went to Hospital Angeles with Dr. Walters and IECH with Dr. Leon. Of the two of them Hospital Angeles is much easier to work with since we don’t speak Spanish. At IECH it was really hard to get past the receptionist and get anything scheduled since we couldn’t communicate at all.

I felt that on average the IVF clinics that we visited that are connected to hospitals are much nicer/safer to work with then the stand alone clinic’s.

Hospital Angeles is a $5 cab ride from the border and you can get in and out of Mexico and the appointments done in a 2-3 hour period.

We didn’t do our IVF there because we needed to do Surrogacy and they will not work with a Surrogate at this time.

We are getting great deals on the medications from a pharmacy that is right across the Tijuana border.

Today is our 10th week of pregnancy and the baby is very healthy.

Let me know how I can help you find the right clinic for you. Good Luck.

    Hi All,

I have had a request for information from Edifice – if anybody can help her she would be very grateful. Her request is:

“Please , if anyone has information related to New Hope fertility clinic in NYC which appears to be affiliated with the one in Mexico .Please let me know , I Am interested in the mini IVF procedure which is costing about 4,800 dollars .”

Hi, can anyone give an update to the situation with the New Hope Fertility Clinic in Guadalajara, of Dr Chavez-Badiola? Is it fully up and running yet and are they doing transfers yet? I also would like to hear from anyone or wants or has had Ovarian tissue freezing or egg vitrification. Can you recommend a good clinic for this in Mexico? Is IMI good for this? Which dr would be the best to perform Ovarian freezing? Can the clinics in Mexico be trusted to keep this safely frozen for an indefinte period? Does IMI clinic do this? Any info on above queries would be welcome. Thanks all

  110. Comment by Bianca

    Dear Alex,
We live in Canada and we’d like to do the PGD with Dr Chavez-Badiola. We phoned him yesterday and Dr Chavez-Badiola was extremely helpful and had lots of patience with us. We were on the phone with him for almost 45 mins during a busy day as Dr. Badiola had. They do offer there both Microsort and PGD.
My question to all of you is that anyone had the PGD cycle done recently. I have heard that there are some side effects (blood thickness, possible extensive bleeding during the period, and so on) that I’d like to know if anyone of you have really had them.
Any personal feedback about PGD would be really appreciated!
    Thank you!
    Bianca

Your experience would be somehting that I’d like to have it shared with me if you can. Much appreciated and again good luck!

Hello, I wanted to know the cost Of IVF for me using donor eggs and donor sperm. I have had IVF x 3 before, 2nd got pregnant but miscarried at 8 weeks. I would to use blastocyst for transfer, prefer 5 or 6 day transfer. I am a nurse and my husband is in the USAF. He cannot take much time off from work. What is the shortest amount of time I would need to be there?. Please email me back.

It takes total of two weeks for us with hormonal treatment, retreivel of eggs and sperms and putting back the fertilezed eggs. If you want to get more info please call our Dr. Garza Morales at (956)465-0680 or e-mail him visiting this homepage http://www.ivf-affordable.com

I have received a response to Bianca from Lady from Texas:

    Dear Bianca,

I don’t think I’ll be doing full payment but at this point since this is my last trial I really don’t care. If you care about my story please visit my homepage http://www.ivf-affordable.com
I got pregnant in my first IVF and she will be 2 years old soon. Last failed IVF was no body’s fault; my baby stop growing after 8 weeks 2 days. They did the biopsy and they couldn’t find any problem. This is my second and last attempt because I don’t think I can handle another one!
Regarding to the repeated IVF there is no danger to your health. My doctor Dr. Garza Morales is excellent regarding to looking after your interest. His clinic is very close to the Texas border. It is almost walking distance. If you need info from him please call him at (956) 465-0680. You may have to waite but he answers his calls and replies all of his e-mails. I cannot say that for the Texas doctors!

    Thanks again and best regards,

    Lady from Texas

Thank you Lady from Texas for all the information.

I have not seen any recent post about your experiences and I would like to be in touch with anyone and each of you to learn more and hopefully to get some help in my decision and the journey ahead.

I would like to know if you have gone through the IVF treatment with Dr. Chavez-Badiola or any other doctor at that clinic. Any other information you can give would be appreciated.

….And my Best Wishes to all!

    Monique,

I think that people have stayed away from commenting about Dr. Chavez’s clinic because they don’t have anything positive to say. Either the communication was poor and they didn’t go to the clinic or they went and didn’t have a good experience.

As for our update – We went to IMI which is in Guadalajara and are currently 17 weeks along with a healthy pregnancy. It’s a girl.

We expect to go back to Dr. Ruvalacaba again to work on a sibling.

    Jon,

Thank you so much for your clinic recommendation and congratulations!! Can you recommend a hotel in the area? Or did pay the $250 to have the clinic coordinate everything for you? Are you willing to share which procedure you used? I am very interested in the mini IVF. Did you have any safety concerns? That will be the main issue with convincing my husband to go into Mexico.

I appreciate any info you can provide!

  128. Comment by Jon

    Valarie,

You don’t need to pay any coordination fee. We can give you all of the free information that you need. We did Standard IVF and brought a surrogate from the US with us for the transfer. IMI does offer the Mini-IVF, but doesn’t recommend it for couples that are traveling from the USA. By the time you add in all of the hotels and travel costs it doesn’t end up being a great savings.

We didn’t have any safety concerns. The clinic is in a very safe part of town and the mall across the street is nicer than most of the malls in San Diego.

It was a very nice trip and we will be going back to work on another child.

    Hi Sue,

We are seriously considering travelling from Canada to Mexico in the next 4 months for ivf treatment. Just wondering if you can connect me with anyone who has been there and found a clinic they loved, had a good experience or even bad. We were considering Dr. Chavez Badiola but have not seen any new posts and are now starting to rethink our decision. Nothing finalized yet. We have been in contact with New Hope but have not heard anything back in over a week. Are there any other great docs out there? Such a big decision! By the way, great info…

    thanks, Jen

This is my 1st time visiting this site. I have been researching IVF for some time & had heard about a place in Mexico, but wasn’t sure how safe or successful it was. I’m very glad to hear all of what I have read below! It gives me hope that we still have a chance. If anyone can provide me with additional information about the New Hope Center I’d really appreciate it! I’ve emailed the Center for information, but I like hearing from those who have either gone or are in the process. I can be emailed at annonfranco@gmail.com

I’m from the US and in Guadalajara right now going through treatment with Dr Chavez-Badiola and I would highly recommend him. His new office (opened in December 2009 ish) is wonderful and very relaxing. It’s in a new, quite posh, part of town. He makes sure I understand everything before we move forward and I have complete confidence.
I don’t speak a word of Spanish either which did make the previous trip, that ended in miscarriage, quite over-whelming (taxies, grocery shopping, no map of town etc) but I’m soldering on.

Good luck to everyone, whatever route you take.

    Jen,

Check your inbox. I finally sent you an email. We are busy right now with a baby due Sept. 7th. We find out tomorrow if they want to schedule a C-section. In which case that would be Sept. 2nd. The time has just flown by. It seems like yesterday that we were worried if we should go to Mexico for IVF. Now we are looking at going again in Dec. if we don’t need the C-section. We would Microsort this time for a boy. And of course go back to IMI. I would be glad to answer your questions. Good Luck.

    Hi Jen,

Sorry to hear you haven’t heard from Jon, perhaps since their last attempt was successful he is tied up with the preparation for the baby. Hopefully others here will share their experiences to help with what is such a difficult decision, choosing a clinic.

    All the best,
    Sue
