IVF Cost at Medicare Thailand

The same day as I sent my letter requesting the IVF cost, IVF success rate and IVF procedure to Medicare Thailand I received an intermediate reply as shown below. The direct answers to my questions came eleven days later.

The website for Medicare Thailand is here. It is nice to know that you would have a native English person to help you through the process whilst in Thailand and to help with the arrangements. It also sounds as though the doctors are keen to collabourate well with your own local GP and specialists.

I actually work on behalf of one of asia’s leading assisted reproducion clinics. They currently are the number one for PGD screening and are showing amazing success rates.

Now I advise on hotels and assist with the bookings if needed. The flights are left to the patient, as they are so easy to purchase now via the net.

We act as agents for the clinic, I look after all international patients, the cost is identical if you go directly throught the clinic or through us. But with us we are a native English point of call in Thailand. We check you into your hotel and take the patient to the clinic for the first meeting. We also supply a mobile phone free of charge with all needed contact numbers prestored. So the patient can relax knowing there is someone very close by, who they can call on for anything.

I personally go with the patients on the first day, I live on the same street as the clinic.

I am having a doctor send me their current rates and 2008 figures, ie, success and procedures. I will send you everything you need to know and have asked for over the next 2 days.

I also do the same thing for stemcell therapy, maybe you might like to have a read through my other site- www.stemcells21.com

Kind Regards

Paul Collier

How are you?

I have got the answers to all your questions-
The questions I have regarding treatment at your clinic are:

1.      What is the current success rate for your clinic? (preferably by age as I know that the success rate will be much lower for somebody of my age)
Pregnancy rate Age:
-          more than 38-42 – approx 30%,
-          more than 42 years – approx 13%,
-          less than  38 years – approx 43%
How many cycles do you perform per year at the clinic?  Up to date is about 300 cycles.
2.      What is the maximum age that you treat?
No age limited as long as the patient have ovarian reserve however, women older than 43 years old the success rate is significantly decrease
3.      Are there any fertility conditions that you will not treat?
Every case we will be manage base on their conditions.
4.      What is your embryo transfer policy? How many embryos will you replace at one time?
We prefer single embryo transfer base on patient decision however, no more than 3 blastocyst.
5.      What is the basic cost of the IVF treatment?
Approx USD 3,000 for Ovum pick-up and IVF
6.      What additional costs would / could be incurred?
 Ovarian stimulation and Medicines
7.      What happens to the costs if the cycle has to be abandoned?
You will not be charged for the procedure that you do not undergo.
8.      How long would I need to be in Thailand for?
In generally, it will take 3 weeks from the day of ovarian stimulation to the day of embryo transfer. However, if you have your local physicians who are willing initial your ovarian stimulation before travel to Bangkok our physician will be happy to coral borate with your doctor in order to minimize your staying in Bangkok .
9.      Who deals with the logistics of flights and accommodation? Answer by Paul
10.  How is the pre-treatment carried out?
You will have direct consultants with our physician.
11.  How do I get medication?
If you ovarian stimulation in Bangkok you will get the medication from us if you have in your countries we will collaborate with your physician.
12.  How will I be monitored?
By ultrasound assessment of Ovarian stimulation for follicle grown and have blood hormonal study to monitor your ovarian stimulation responses.
13.  How will I know that I am not being under / over stimulated?
You will have your initial assessment of your ovarian stimulation on day 5 of your stimulation then you will be monitoring every other day and the     doctor will adjust your medication doses base on your ovarian stimulation responses.
14.  If I have a problem whilst in the UK who would I go to?  Your specialty doctor
15.  Is the clinic registered with any regulatory body? Yes we do have, License to operate a Sanatorium as OBGYN Clinic recognise by Medical Registration Division and the certificate from the royal Thai college of OBGYN

I hope this gives you all the answers needed.

Let me know how you want to move ahead. I have just learned that the UK is going to be only allowing 1 embryo transfer for IVF treatments. This is not good, its is already more expensive for ART treatments in the UK and now they have restricted it to this.

I currently have a couple from Wales over in Bangkok for IVF and PGD screening.

Regards

Paul

Did you get an estimate to question #6 “Additional costs would / could be incurred?
Ovarian stimulation and Medicines”? I know the Meds here in the USA are very expensive and was wondering what the total would be for a full cycle including the medications in Thailand.

I am 30 yrs. old and have recently lost both my tubes due to 3 ectopic pregnancies in the last 9 months. I don’t have $10,000 to throw around so I am looking into this because I think I have a great chance getting pregnant with one cycle and probably wouldn’t have the $ to do a second cycle.

This paul has been slow to respond to me and its not clear what hospital or clinic he is working on behalf of …i’ve had better luck contacting these hospitals directly and both the staff and doctors and have responded:

    Hi All,
it turns out that Paul Collier is associated associated wiht Superior ART however, he’s not responsive at all and the only thing he does is provide housing..which you can find the information on the Superior

    I’ve been communicating extensively with
    Somjate Manipalviratn, M.D.
    Obstetrician and Gynecologist
    Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility Specialist

I’ve also found some Australian Women’s forum group that discusses only IVF/PGD for sex selection. Most of the comments were dated in mid to late 2007 when the clinic had just opened.

My suspision is that Superior ART which is a 50% joint venture between Sydney IVF was Sydney IVF’s way around the ban and now illegal practice of PGD/sex selection in Australia.

I haven’t run into many women who’ve come back with success stories from Thailand in general but then then when you I look at hte group, they all tend to be older ie 38+ either have male infertility factor or other issues and a lot of the women in the group I was reading wanted sex selection so that adds additional burdens on embryo growth, quality and reduces the number.

    One woman did post.

I’m looking for success stories. I almost ready to go when I met a woman in Singapore who went to Superior ART in Dec 2007 2x for failed IVF. However again she is older and has corrected asherman’s and I believe her husband has MIF…so odds stack against her.

I’ve read that it takes on average 3-5 tries with IVF.

I’m looking for any success stories or feedback if you’ve used Superior ART.

Hi, Would like to know more about the IVF procedure and if so do you have any physician or specialist in Hong Kong so that I can do some follow up here before coming to Thailand.

    Thanks

    Hi,
Can you give me the whole cost in Australian currency of ivf including drugs and overnight stay in the hospital.
Also do you perform ivf on single women?
    Regards,
    Lili

    to lili,
this site is run by a lay person not the medical personal of thailand. i’d recommend taking the amounts above and plugging them into a currency converter like this one: http://www.x-rates.com/calculator.html
