1. What is the current success rate for your clinic? (preferably by age as I know that the success rate will be much lower for somebody of my age)

Sunfert’s current success rate is 55%.
Age less than 30 years: 60%
Age 30 – 33 years: 50%
Age 34 – 37 years: 69%
Age 38 – 40 years: 57%
Age more than 40 years: 38%

2. How many cycles do you perform per year at the clinic?
We think that we could perform 200 cycles this year.

3. What is the maximum age that you treat?
We don’t eliminate ages. The oldest that we have treated is 43years (own
eggs) and 57 years (donor eggs).

4. Are there any fertility conditions that you will not treat?
Surrogacy (however, discussions with the fertility doctor is advisable
first).
5. What is your embryo transfer policy? How many embryos will you replace at one time?
Less than 38 years, 3 embryos. More depends on condition, quality of
embryos, patient’s fertility treatment history.

6. What is the basic cost of the IVF treatment?
Package price is RM14,900 nett (terms and conditions apply).

7. What additional costs would / could be incurred?
First consultation with doctor, preliminary fertility investigations,
initial semen analysis and other investigations.

8. What happens to the costs if the cycle has to be abandoned?
A refund can be obtained (depending on which stage the cycle was abandoned).

9. How long would I need to be in Malaysia for?
If you have a fertility doctor at your own country that can monitor your
cycle initially, then you would have to be in Malaysia about 1 week (final
follicular scan, egg retrieval and embryo transfer).

10. Who deals with the logistics of flights and accommodation?
We can assist the foreign patients in booking of accommodation.

11. How is the pre-treatment carried out?
Please elaborate.

12. How do I get medication?
If you are a foreigner, we will give you a prescription or a letter for
you to bring along the drugs back home during your first visit with the
fertility doctor (preliminary investigation). But if you are a local, we
can dispense the drugs to you straight from our pharmacy.

13. How will I be monitored?
If you are a foreigner, we will work hand in hand with your local doctor.
If you are malaysia, monitoring will be done by our fertility doctor’s
clinic which is two doors away from the centre (literally).

14. How will I know that I am not being under / over stimulated?
The doctor will advise you during follicular scan sessions.

15. If I have a problem whilst in the UK who would I go to?
You can discuss this with our fertility doctor. He can suggest some contacts.

16. Is the clinic registered with any regulatory body?

(preferably by age as I know that the success rate will be much lower for somebody of my age) – Since second year of our operation, we have been maintaining a consistant overall clinical pregnancy rate per embryo transfer at above 40% (2005 - 47.9%, 2006 – 47.5%, 2007 – 44.4%, 2008 (Jan – Sept) – 59.2%).  Clincial pregnancy per embryo transfer based on age group: < 26 years old - 57.1%, 26-30 years old: 75.0%, 31-35 years old: 47.3%, 36-40 years old: 34.4%, > 40 years old: 14.3%
2. How many cycles do you perform per year at the clinic? - Approximately 70 cases
3. What is the maximum age that you treat? - We do not set age limit for our patient
4. Are there any fertility conditions that you will not treat? - No

What is your embryo transfer policy? - It is based on embryo quality and patient’s age & infertility background   How many embryos will you replace at one time? - Usually 3 grade-I embryos but for patients > 40 years old or embryo quality is less satisfactory, we may consider transfer more than 3 embryos.
6. What is the basic cost of the IVF treatment? - Laboratory fees (including OPU, ICSI, ET, embryo freezing and initial 6 months frozen embryo maintenance) - RM 7000 nett (approx. US$1,995), Clinician fees (OPU & ET) – RM 2500 nett (approx. US$713), Hormonal drugs cost & monitorings during follicular stimulation – RM 6000 – 8000 (approx. US$1,710 – US$2,280) (depending on the amount or dosage of hormonal drugs required).
7. What additional costs would / could be incurred? - For younger patients who are in risk of OHSS or patients with OHSS, there could be additional cost on post-ET monitorings and albumin infusions.
8. What happens to the costs if the cycle has to be abandoned? - There will be partial refunds depending on the stage of the cycle when it has to be abandoned.
9. How long would I need to be in Malaysia for? - 30 – 35 days, provided you give us all the medication / infertility evaluations you and your husband had gone through prior to the commencement of your IVF/ICSI cycle.
10. Who deals with the logistics of flights and accommodation? - Our clinic will assist you on this matter.
11. How is the pre-treatment carried out? - It involves trans-vaginal scannings and blood tests.
12. How do I get medication? - Our doctor will provide all needed medications to you.
13. How will I be monitored? - Our doctor will monitor your follicular development via trans-vaginal scan during hormonal stimulations.

How will I know that I am not being under / over stimulated? - Our doctor will determine the hormonal dosage based on the infertility evaluations done by your doctor.  The dosage prescribed is to stimulate your ovaries to produce app 10 follicles.  However, as our body may react differently towards the hormonal dosage prescribed, there is always a risk of under / over-stimulation.  We will only know the outcome of your response when you have your first TV scan on the 5th day of hormonal injections. 
15. If I have a problem whilst in the UK who would I go to? - Any infertility clinics or specialists should be able to assist you.
16. Is the clinic registered with any regulatory body? - Malaysia has yet to have a regulatory body that governs IVF centres in this country.

I received a further email from TMC Fertility Centre in Malaysia in September 2010 providing updated statistics and pricing information, which is what is shown below:

We are pleased to provide you the following information in helping you to have a better planning shall you consider undergo fertility treatments at our medical centre:

1.    Ideal timing of visit to Malaysia

As far as possible we should see the couple between 21^st to 23^rd day of the cycle (the first day of the cycle is the first day of a proper period).  During this visit, the couple undergoes a full assessment and subsequently commencement of treatment.  The husband would also need to undergo a semen analysis for which he should abstain between 3 – 5 days prior.

2.    IVF/ICSI treatment cycle

Treatment involves a series of daily injections for 4 ½ weeks to 5 weeks and 2 to 3 clinic visits.  You will need to be seen every 3 to 5 days until egg collection and subsequently embryo transfer 2 to 3 days later.  If you need PGS/PGD, this will be done 3 – 5 days (blastocyst) after egg collection.  Excess embryos if available will be frozen. The entire treatment takes approximately 32 days (IVF / ICSI only) or 36 days (IVF + PGS).  If you need PGS/PGD, you should be seen at the Kuala Lumpur centre.

3.    Hospital Facilities

Our hospital offers comprehensive fertility care management.  All fertility procedures are performed as day case, ie. no hospital admissions are necessary.  However, if you require accommodation / lodging, airport transfer we are happy to help you arrange.  There is a 4- star hotel (Hotel Royal Bintang Damansara) and a 5-star hotel (One World Hotel) nearby.  In addition, we also have some home-stay accommodation with facilities available.

There is also long stay apartments at the cost of RM1,200 per week.

4.       The cost of treatment is as follows :-

Initial consultation (scans, semen analysis, blood tests)   -  RM 850 – RM1,100

IVF/ ICSI (incl of drugs, lab charges, procedures)                -  RM18000 – RM20,000 +per cycle

IVF & PGS (incl of drugs, lab charges, procedures)             -  RM30,000+ per cycle

5.       The pregnancy rate per cycle are as follows :-

IVF                     53.3%

ICSI                    42%

IVF & PGD         45%

We prefer if you can have the entire treatment with us to ensure consistency and high success rates, but if you wish, you can have part of the treatment with your own fertility specialist and come back to us for egg collection and transfer.
