IVF Cost at Krishna IVF Clinic, India – great information!

Two weeks after I sent my letter requesting information on the IVF cost, IVF success rate and IVF procedure at Krishna IVF Clinic in India I received the reply below.

Although this clinic will not treat me due to my age they have still replied in full and directly to my questions and there is an informative diagram which was sent to me by Dr. Raju shown after the answers. The IVF cost appears very reasonable given that there are no additions other than flights and accomodation (Dr. Raju has kindly put these into US$ for us).

1. What is the current success rate for your clinic?

Clinic Success rates (Clinical Pregnancy Rate) for the period- January 2008 to August 2008: < 30 years: 46.12%, 30-35 years: 37.14 % and > 35 years: 25.0%

2. How many cycles do you perform per year at the clinic?

We usually perform 400 cycles per year in our clinic.

3. What is the maximum age that you treat?

We treat women up to 41/42 years of age.

4. Are there any fertility conditions that you will not treat?

Oocyte donation and professional surrogacy are not provided at our clinic.

5. What is your embryo transfer policy? How many embryos will you replace at one time?

We do day 4 compacted embryo transfer, maximum 3 embryos will be transferred for younger age groups, and more than 3 embryos will be transferred for older age group.

6. What is the basic cost of the IVF treatment?

US $ 3000-3500/- (excluding transport and accommodation)

7. What additional costs would be/could be incurred?

No additional costs

8. What happens to the cost if the cycle has to be abandoned?

Cost for the ultrasound services and consultation will be charged and rest of the amount

(that may be upto 100-200$) will be returned if the cycle is abandoned.

9. How long would I need to be in India for? 17 days

10. Who deals with the logistics of flights and accommodation?

Krishna IVF’S clinical coordinator along with couple who wish to go for IVF treatment at our clinic will jointly deal with these matters (http://krishnaivf.com/category/location/).

11. How is the pre- treatment carried out?

Couple willing to under go IVF treatment is advised to attend our clinic for preliminary investigations during 18^th to 21^st day of their cycle. Couple needs to plan for 2 days stay (http://krishnaivf.com/category/ivf-process/).

Investigations like

1) Basic preliminary blood investigations needed for IVF treatment.

2) Ultrasound scanning for the woman to check uterus and ovaries are done.

Sperm freezing and counseling are carried out at the same sitting, after preliminary investigation down regulation injection (Decapeptyl) is given.

2 weeks later woman is asked to come to the clinic to check E2 and LH hormone levels. If levels are satisfactory stimulation for ovulation will be started. Woman need to plan for 17 days stay for stimulation, Oocyte recovery and embryo transfer. Rarely she may need to stay further 2 more weeks if she develops hyper stimulation.

We prefer stimulation and monitoring under one roof (i.e at our clinic).

During stimulation with hormonal injections woman is monitored by transvaginal ultrasonography and blood hormone levels regularly to see the progressive growth of the follicles. Woman is also prevented from under/over stimulation by this.

16. Is the clinic registered with any regulatory body?

We are registered with the Indian Society for Assisted Reproduction (ISAR) and ESHRE PGD Consortium (European society of human reproduction Pre implantation genetic diagnosis) (Center code: “103”).

IVF Cost at Miracle Advanced Reproduction & Research Centre, India – great information

Four days after sending my letter requesting the IVF cost, IVF success rate and IVF procedure atthe Miracle Advanced Reproduction & Research Centre in India I reeived the following reply and a request that I telephone for more information and a general chat about my situation. I have added the US$ costs in red.

I did speak with Mr. Kini on the telephone for some time and had a very informative chat about the options that are open to me. The one thing that I liked very much was that he did not dismiss the possibility that I may be able to conceive with my own eggs – at my age many clinics seem to be saying that I will need donor eggs – but he did say that it would be dependant on the test results. I must admit that this made me feel like an individual and not an “age”! He also said that there were some techniques for improving the quality of the eggs that cannot be done in the UK yet.

Although this is not as cheap as some of the Indian Clinics, Mr. Kini does have a lot of experience and has practised in the West, and he treats you as an individual. This is a clinic we will be considering further on my shortlist.

Let me introduce myself. I am the lead clinician for the clinic. I have over 26 years infertility experience both in the UK and aborad. I worked initially with Mr. Patrick Steptoe and Prof. Bob Edwards of Bourn Hall in Cambridge. I live in the UK and just this month we started the IVf unit in Chennai ( Madras) in Southern Indian State of Tamilnadu. I work from time to time at one of the London clinics in Harley Street. But having got fed up with the red tape and regulations here in the UK I started the clinic in India.

I will try to answer some of your questions:

Our treatment success at age 43 is between 5-10% depending on your baseline FSH levels. If you have done day 2-3 FSH and E2 please let me know.

We anticipate to do around 200 cycles in the first year in India. We also had a unit in Saudi Arabia where we were doing 250-275 cycles per year.

We treat up to the age of 45 once again depending on your hormones.We will explain to you the chances of success before starting any treatment. As far as you know where you stand then it is ok to start.

If you have high FSH then donor egg is the only solution.

We can transfer up to three embryos epending on how many are available and the quality of embryos. We normally transfer n day 2 or 3.

The basic cost is £2000 (approx. US$3,430) per cycle + cost of medication (on the telephone Mr. Kini indicated that this would be approx. £800 – £900, that is US$1,375 – US$1,550) which is all avaiable in India. + cost of flights for you and your partner+ accomodation.

If the cycle is abandoned we charge £ 500 (approx. US$860)

We programme all the cycles with hormones so that you know when to come there and when to start the treatment. Average stay should be 3-4 weeks.

We can arrange hotel accomodation. There are decent hotels very near to the centre. It costs Rs 3600-4600 (approx. US$75 – US$97) per day + food. One £ =Rs80 exchange rate

IVF Cost at Tajas IVF& Endoscopy Clinic, India

The same day as I sent my letter requesting IVF cost, IVF success rates and IVF procedure information to the Tajas IVF & Endoscopy Clinic in India I received the following reply:

Since you are of age 43 yrs, i dont think we can be sucessful in carrying out ivf using your own egg.In my opinion you require donor egg for carrying out IVF . We have more than 100 patients terated successfully utilizing donor egg programme. If you are interested in Egg donation IVF programme , you may please contact me for further details.

Usually we dont do IVF in pateint in the age group beyond 40yrs. using self egg as results are very poor.For egg donation IVF we have to have egg either shared from other patient undergonig IVF and willing to share or collect the egg from professional egg donor, or any of your relatives, friends willing to donate the eggs. .Fertilizing these eggs with your husband`s sperm and resulting embryos are transffered into your womb.This is simply egg Donation IVF . If you are interested , you may please let me know

IVF Cost at Shivam Infertility & IVF Centre, India

The following is the reply I received from my letter requesting the IVF cost, IVF success rate and IVF procedure at Shivam Infertility & IVF Centre in India. Unfortunately they did not answer any of my questions directly. I did have a look at the website and found an indication of the cost under the FAQ section that states that the total cost of one cycle will be between Rs. 70,000 and Rs. 90,000 (approx. US $1,460 to US $1,880); the duration of the stay in India would need to be approximately 4 weeks and the success rate is higher than the UK and Australia due to the fact that they usually replace 3 – 4 embryos rather than the restriction to two that exists in some other places.

received ur mail.at ur we do not suggest IVF with ur own oocytes for the simple reason success rate go down and chances of down syndrome increased.still if u would like to use ur own oocyte we should be given the results of ur prevoius inductions and serum FSH,LH hormone value on the second day of ur periods.if both reports come out to be normal than we can think of taking u for IVF and kindly fill up the infertility questionnaire available at our website,i.e.www.shivamivfcentre.com

IVF Cost at Baheti Hospital & Centre for Reproductive Healthcare, India – great information!

Three days after emailing my letter I received a very good response from Dr. Neela Baheti of Baheti Hospital & Centre for Reproductive Healthcare. It is so nice when people directly address the questions that you ask and Dr. Baheti has done that in her reply.

The cost of the basic IVF is very good, however this does not include the medication and I do know that medication can add quite a significant amount to the overall cost of a cycle, so be aware of this when you compare the cost here to some of the other clinics that have replied and included the medication in their price.

The website at www.baheti-ivf.com is definitely worth a look at, in particular check out their Patient Education tab, there is some good information – a calander for a typical IVF cycle treatment and of interest to me was the information on how age affects fertility. Your observation is absolutely correct about India’s cost effective treatment. In recent years India has emerged as a preferred medical tourism hub. It stands especially true for Assisted Reproduction facilities.

Our clinic is situated in the beautiful city of Jaipur – popularly known as Pink City. Being a tourist place it is very well connected with railways, surface and aerial route of transport. Further, proximity from New Delhi makes it even more convenient for international visitors.

Here we try to answer your questions point wise :

1. The success rate at our centre for the age group below 35 is in the range of 25-30 %. To answer your question specifically, we have done a limited number of cycles after the age of 40 yrs. Mostly using a young egg donor. The success rate has been 40 % for such women.

2. Ours is reproductive healthcare unit and not only an IVF clinic. We carry out around 100-120 cycles per year alongwith other activities.

3. We do offer IVF treatment to any healthy women who is 40 + as long as she is willing to take donated eggs from a healthy donor. We encourage relatives/ friends as egg donor.

4. Patients with fibroid which may interfere with the implantation and patients with adenomyosis are two major categories that we avoid for IVF even if they are willing to use donated eggs.

5. Below the age 35, we like to transfer 2 good blastocysts but for elderly ladies we may transfer upto 4 embryos.

6 & 7. The basic cost of one cycle of IVF at our clinic is $ 1400. ICSI costs additional $ 350. This includes blastocyst culture but the cost of medicines is extra as actual.

8. We have a refund policy - If a patient’s treatment is abandoned on medical /technical grounds, the remaining amount is refunded deducing the actual expenses incurred up to the date of decision.

To answer Q 9, 11 and 13, we would like to know your clinical details including :

a. Hormonal Status

b. Husband’s recent Semen profile

c. Details of any previous fertility treatment, ovarian stimulation response etc.

If you have poor ovarian reserve we would recommend egg donation for you. However, if hormonal status is OK, we could try a suitable stimulation protocol for you.

10. We can help in arranging accommodation and flight booking etc. Rajasthan Tourism Department has good facilities if one wishes to club his/her stay during treatment with tourism. Please visit www.rajasthantourism.gov.in and www.rtdc.in

15. The best person to guide you will be your GP.

16. There’s no regulatory body existing in India as yet. However, we are registered with the Indian Society for Assisted Reproduction (ISAR) and the National ART Registry of India (NARI).

IVF Cost at Samad IVF Hospital, India

I received the following reply to my letter requesting IVF cost, IVF success rates and the IVF procedure from Samad IVF Hospital in India. I must admit this one does not make my shortlist! Not only do they not answer any of my questions but they epect me to travel to India for a preliminary interview before they will consider answering them!! Considering the fact that the whole reason for going abroad is to keep the IVF cost down I don’t think this is a very lucrative policy on behalf of the hospital. All that I can assume is that they generally only treat local patients. The reply was received within two days of my email, and for your information I have published it here anyway:

Since you are 43 and you have not conceived probably due to unexplained infertility the ideal treatment for you would be donor egg. Your questions will be answered, if and when you come for a preliminary interview to the hospital.

New test is available in India that can stop wasted IVF attempts

A new test has been developed that can test for defective eggs, hence stopping the cost and emotional turmoil of an IVF attempt that would never have worked. The test is available at Dehli’s Pheonix Hospital and costs around US$215 on top of the IVF treatment. Check out the full article here.

IVF Cost at the Ideal Fertility Centre in India – great information!

To date this is certainly my favourite response to the letter I sent to IVF clinics – and it’s not just because he thinks this site is fantastic! It is so clear that Dr. Banerji really read and understood what I was asking and then took the time to answer all of my sixteen questions directly and fully. On top of that it was a fast response – the morning after I sent the email.

If you check out their website at http://www.idealfertility.com you will find some excellent information, their email address is dpankar@idealfertility.com. There are also the costs for local accomodation within 1 km of the clinic given on the website.

Since Dr. Banerji has answered my questions so directly to save you having to go between my letter and this response I have added the questions that I asked in red.

I think the big thing that has really warmed me to Dr. Banerji is that his response is full yet personal and I feel a real honesty coming through, along with a real pride in the work that they do. This clinic will certainly be on my short list!

I am putting my heart to tell the truth of my center, so that you can help yourself or help others if you feel we are capable enough to handle the international patients.

IVF is a process needs complete transparency with the couple undergoing the treatment .There should be freindly and most informal dicussion between the doctor and the couple. I never believe in counsellor.

Its me, who the couple should believe, and has full right to watch my work. We are total in-house working team. I am a gynecologist and my wife is one of the best embryologist (a qualified pathologist). Now I am answering the questions

1. What is the current success rate for your clinic? (preferably by age as I know that the success rate will be much lower for somebody of my age)

1. Success rate : < 30 yrs. 45.2%, 30-35yrs 23% and above 35yrs. 10-12%. There are number of factors which affects success rate even in low age group

2. How many cycles do you perform per year at the clinic?

2. Number of cycles per yr. 500 to 600

3. What is the maximum age that you treat?

3. We treat upto 55-60 yrs. After 38-39 we prefer egg donation.

4. Are there any fertility conditions that you will not treat?

4. no professional surrogacy or egg donation.

5. What is your embryo transfer policy? How many embryos will you replace at one time?

5. Embryo transfer policy: We do Day 5 blastocyst transfer. 2-3 maximum (as blstocysts are usually less in number), We do not do single embryo transfer. To lessen the multiple pregnancy rate, we stimulate with less drugs and get less eggs, but good quality eggs. Lesser the embryos, better the embryos and go to blastocyst. Only best embryos goes to blastocyst and then transfer them.

6. What is the basic cost of the IVF treatment?

6.Cost of IVF : US$ 2500 and ICSI US$ 3000

7. What additional costs would / could be incurred?

7. No other costs involved for the treatment (no hidden cost), lodging boarding extra.

8. What happens to the costs if the cycle has to be abandoned?

8. Cycle cancellation because of poor stimulation (less than 3 eggs) : cost of used drugs, investigation charges, our consultation fee, sonography charges are taken, rest of the money is given back (the amount is on sole descretion of the doctor, but usually it is half of the amount).

9. How long would I need to be in India for?

9. In India : you need to stay for one month – one and half month. It can be reduced if part of the treatment is started in parent country. Then we reduce the cost those drugs what couple used from our charges, but it is our cost in India.

10. Who deals with the logistics of flights and accommodation?

10. Logistics of flight and accomodation : definitety we help. In my site it is there, how to reach us. Accomodation is there and to and from airport taxi facility is there at an extra cost.

11. How is the pre-treatment carried out?

11. Preparation of treament: Usually the reports are asked first to assess the ovarian reserve, endometrial lining and semen and cycle regularity. One oral contraceptive is started form day 2 and we call them on day 17 of the cycle before finishing the OCs. Injection luprolide is started on 17th or 18th tablet of OCs. OCs finishes on 22nd day of cycle and Injection continues .After the withdrawal period of OCs, we assess the aievement of Down regulation. It is either by sonography and/or Estradiol. After that we start Actual gonoadotropins, we use highly purified Gonoadotropins ( if couple wishe for recombinant one then the cycle cost will be more), but highly purified gives same results.

12. How do I get medication?

12. Medications can be sent through courier ( but it is difficult, because of regulations), hence we tell patients to come to us for full treatment.

13. How will I be monitored?

13. Monitoring is usually by sonography. If required we do hormones.

14. How will I know that I am not being under / over stimulated?

14.For hyper /under stimulation: you can see the sonography screen and if required estradiol assay.

15. If I have a problem whilst in the UK who would I go to?

15. In UK where to go : I do not know the health care facility there.

16. Is the clinic registered with any regulatory body?

16. Clinic is ISO 9001-2000 test tube baby center: JAS-ANZ.

If you can do an advocay campaign for indian centers to get recognised by NHS then treatment will be cheaper and faster. We are equipped with state of the art instruments of world and with worldclass disposables.
