IVF Cost at TMC Fertility Centre, Malaysia

Below is the response that I received to my letter about the IVF cost, IVF success rate and IVF process at the TMC Fertility Centre in Malaysia. A very quick response – received the same day that I emailed the letter to them.

The web address for the clinic is http://www.tmcfertility.com/

I received a further email from TMC Fertility Centre in Malaysia in September 2010 providing updated statistics and pricing information, which is what is shown below:

We are pleased to provide you the following information in helping you to have a better planning shall you consider undergo fertility treatments at our medical centre:

1. Ideal timing of visit to Malaysia

As far as possible we should see the couple between 21st to 23rd day of the cycle (the first day of the cycle is the first day of a proper period). During this visit, the couple undergoes a full assessment and subsequently commencement of treatment. The husband would also need to undergo a semen analysis for which he should abstain between 3 – 5 days prior.

2. IVF/ICSI treatment cycle

Treatment involves a series of daily injections for 4 ½ weeks to 5 weeks and 2 to 3 clinic visits. You will need to be seen every 3 to 5 days until egg collection and subsequently embryo transfer 2 to 3 days later. If you need PGS/PGD, this will be done 3 – 5 days (blastocyst) after egg collection. Excess embryos if available will be frozen. The entire treatment takes approximately 32 days (IVF / ICSI only) or 36 days (IVF + PGS). If you need PGS/PGD, you should be seen at the Kota Damansara Centre

3. Hospital Facilities

Our hospital offers comprehensive fertility care management. All fertility procedures are performed as day case, ie. no hospital admissions are necessary. However, if you require accommodation / lodging, airport transfer we are happy to help you arrange.

There is also long stay apartments at the cost of Rm600-800 per week. These can be found on AirBNB. Below are a few examples.

4. The cost of treatment is as follows :-

Initial consultation (scans, semen analysis, blood tests) – RM 850 – RM1,100

IVF/ ICSI (incl of drugs, lab charges, procedures) – RM18000 – RM20,000 +per cycle

IVF & PGS (incl of drugs, lab charges, procedures) – RM30,000+ per cycle

5. The latest published overall pregnancy rate is currently at 66%, as presented at the 5th Congress of the Asia Pacific Initiative of Reproduction (ASPIRE), Brisbane, Australia

We prefer if you can have the entire treatment with us to ensure consistency and high success rates, but if you wish, you can have part of the treatment with your own fertility specialist and come back to us for egg collection and transfer. You can log into our fertility website: www.tmcfertility.com for more information about our fertility services and programs. Our fertility centre has been consistently achieving high IVF success rate since we started 20 years ago. We are the largest fertility centre in Malaysia. We look forward to be of assistance.

there stats are great and my friend was successful here 1st try and her husband has male problem I believe sperm don’t swim and very very few sperm

contact me if you have been to this clinic

Hi I’m American living in Singapore. Today I went to the TMC clinic to meet with Dr. Fabian. I wanted to see the clinic and understand their proceedures.

Overall it went well really. I contracted a taxi company that has permission to drive in both Singapore and Malaysia. So the trip to Johor Bahru (JB) was super easy. It was 60 minutes door to door and i live on the east coast. So if you consider them, i would recommend staying in Singapore. JB is quite ugly and run down and really nothing there.

the clinic is inside an office building..that is pretty much vacant. its just past the Immigration check points. so its very easy to get to from Singapore.

The clinic itself is older and very spartan. But the staff are friendly and speak English. there are lots and lots of writes up on the clinic walls..all in Malaysian unfortunately…lots of baby picutres and thank you letters.

I met with the Doctor. he was really nice and spoke fluent English. He is trained in Banglore and UK. He took his time and answer all 30 of my questions. we spent about 45 minutes.
They do discuss in detail with you about embryo transfers. they also do mock transfers and prefer long protocol. they monitor you regularly. they do provide storage for embryos.

overall everything seems top level…its just not a posh office setting.

the clinic and lab are all in one location.

The cost is about $4500-6000US depending on the drugs you need and ICIS and assisted hatching.

they don’t do selective reductions but refer you out. they work with you to limit the # of embryos but at the same get the best rest.

Overall, after meeting the doctor I feel much better.
at the end they gave us a video about IVF/ICIS and the proceedure.

    very professional.

if we move forward with IVF it’ll be here.

If anyone is considering them, they are really slow to respond to email and you can’t speak with the doctor. it may be best to arrange for a phone consultation or email me and I”ll give you the contact information of the doctor

i also recommend you stay in Singapore and commute to JB for the appts.

can a 52-53 yr old conceive by ivf, what is the possibility. her period has stopped for abt 3-4 mths

  6. Comment by Momofone

    hi There,
I wanted to update and let everyone know that TMC’s embryologist has only been at that the JB location for 2 years and only has 2 years of experience.

  7. Comment by admin

Thanks for this information. Do you think this is good or bad? Sometimes when people are fairly new to their field they are more diligent. Then again they have not come across all of the problems that can occur and hence their lack of experience can mean that they miss things that a more experienced embryologist would not.

  9. Comment by Momofone

to admin, the #1 thing in evaluating a clinic is the embryologist. this has to do with experience and not enthusiam…go for good experiece

  10. Comment by admin

You’re right, I suppose I should be asking them what experience they have.

Best of luck with your treatment, I’m so pleased it’s going so well – love the updates.

  11. Comment by JT

I’m currently undergoing ICSI at TMC (Kota Damansara). Found out that the success rates in the last 2 months had increased to 61%. They’ve done a wonderful job and I’m in my 2WW period. Not too sure how TMC JB looks like but I’m really pleased with TMC Kota Damansara with its new full-fledged building, operating rooms, test centers, etc.

  12. Comment by admin

Thank you for the feedback JT, it’s great to hear about peoples personal experiences.

    Best of luck,

  14. Comment by Momofone

wanted to respond to JT, (at TMC in Kota)

i physically went to the TMC clinic in JB.
I have to say visually, not impressed…its a clean space but very old…very austere…they don’t even leave toilet paper in the bathroom. It has much more feel of being influenced by the muslim culture as opposed to the Chinese Culture like Victoria ARt.

I didn’t go with them and went with Victoria ART, literally down the street, because the embryologist at TMC JB only has 2 years of experience and is working alone..all research states and my doctors in Singapore said that the most important factor is the experience and skill of the embryologist.
A 2 year veteran with no senior supervisor concerns me…plus this site has not updated their states since 2006! thats a 3 year gap and plenty of time to get them out.

Victoria ART’s embryologist, Rachel, has over 10 years experience and she was actually working for TMC in Kuala lumpur and was a part of the all the “firsts” that TMC did there.

I have to say, working with her now for over a month, she is really fantastic. She runs the Victoria ART lab in JB.

I understand that other than IVF, there is another alternative, IUI. How is the success rate of IUI.

  16. Comment by Momofone

In general IUI is not much better than timed sex, its success rate is about 20%…its really only recommend if you have hostle vaginal fluid. but if you sperm problems or unexplained infertility new studies have come out showing its a waste of time and money to do IUI you are better of just to keep timing sex or move onto IVF

  25. Comment by Mind Movies

that is much cheaper than in America. Are the same procedures used?

  26. Comment by admin

    Dear Mind Movies,

As far as I am aware the procedures are exactly the same. Generally the difference in price is due to the difference in the cost of labour between countries.

    All the best,
    Sue

  27. Comment by Karen Fisher

Just wanted to comment about the three IVF Centres at JB. The one at TMC and Victory are OK but I found the one at Johor Specialist Hospital (JSH), Jalan Abdul Samad the best. It is based at the Premier Hospital (JSH) and has all the necessary back up services at one location, including Urologist, operation theter and even delivery in one place.

I found the doctor there, Dr Mohan, to be very friendly and caring. The embrylogist there, Ms Angela Ho has more then 18 years experience. That’s more then any other embrylogists experiences in JB put together. In fact, she has her own free standing lab in Singapore, Manila and Jakarta. In fact, me being being treated at JSH fertlity Centre assures me Singapore and international standards but me paying in Malaysian rates! In fact, they are the only centre in JB that does their own pre implant genetic diagnosis (PGD) in house.

I would strongly recommend this Centre to any one who is considering IVF.

    Karen

  28. Comment by Momofone

    Hi Karen,
    I looked up JSH http://www.jsh.kpjhealth.com.my/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=157&Itemid=153

Can you tell me about their pricing…did you or are you currently using their services?
    do you live in Singapore?

i’m very happy with Victoria ART but curious about this place. please provide more info

    thanks

  29. Comment by Karen Fisher

This is in responce to Momofone’s qst. No, I do not live in Singapore. I had my IVF done at JSH Fertility Centre, Johor Specialist Hospital about one year ago and had just delivered a lovely set of twin boys. I did my pre implantation diagnosis there (to balance my family) as I already have two girls. I now live in London, UK.

It cost us around RM 19,000 for the IVF and an additional RM 8,000 for the PGD. The best thing about JSH Fertility Centre is that the staff there is very friendly. Further more, the embryologist there, Ms Angela Ho and the doctor, Dr Mohan are very experienced and caring.

    Thank you.

we have been married for 7years and have gone thru various treatments and finally been told that Ivf would be the only soloution. I am very able to do this in my country Sri Lanka, but the shariah rules cannot be 100%. I would wish to know if youll are a shariah compliant centre and if youll have only ladies on your team of doctors and tech.
I have been diagnosed with PCOS. iui is not possible for me the doctors say.I am 28years and my husband is 35years, could you please send me some details and the costs of such treatment in your TMC Fertility Centre

Thanking and awaiting an early response

Is it true when they say, you can choose the baby’s gender, have single or twin, the baby’s features, super smart baby with IVF?

hi im a doctor in the maternal child heath care clinic in malayia..i have a very warm hearted sister who has been tryin for many years to concieve. she recently went through ivf at one of the local fertility centres. the doctor there had inform her that he ll only charge her once by preservin thehe eggs…so regardless she only pays once. She lost her precious IVF baby today at only 6 weeks!…i cant stop feeling sorry for her lost as im so helpless!..to make ot worse the doctor didnt manage to preserve the eggs…its just breaks my heart to see her in this situaition…to all u doctors out there .pls tryhelp these cou[ples!…she was giventhenews of she lost them, she had to go through a D & C after that and given a huge bill to make all worse!!

  34. Comment by admin

    Dr. K.G.
I am so sorry to hear of the distress that your sister has had to go through. This is certainly a big issue with IVF – not only do you have all the normal distresses of possible problems that can occur with pregnancy, but you have higher emotional feelings as generally the amount of time and effort that has gone into trying to become pregnant is much higher than normal, and you also have the bills!
It is heart warming to hear a plea from a doctor to other doctors for the protection of our feelings as “customers” – I thank you for this.
My condolences go out to your sister and I hope that she is successful in the future and that life brings her the beautiful healthy baby that she longs for.
    All the best,
    Sue

  35. Comment by mummy

    Dr K.G.
I know it is a very tough time for your sister right now. My heart goes out for her and I pray that she will have the strength to go through this tough time.
I did IVF twice and both failed. That was 2 years back. The feeling was devastating when we lost it, both for me and my hubby. Mine didn’t go as far as 6 weeks.
We are considering to try it one more time, thinking of trying it in TMC. For those that has real life experience with TMC (or Damansara Specialist) in Kota Damansara/Damansara Uptown, appreciate if you could share it her.

  41. Comment by ann

Does anyone know how many cases has the embryologist performed? my friends & doctor told me to evaluate the embryologist not only by the number of years they have worked as an embryologist, but by the number of cases they have performed because you cannot say that a person who has worked as an embryologist for 15 years but with 40 cases a year is definitely better than one who has only worked for 4 years but have done 150 cases a year..any comments?

For those who are interested in having treatment in TMC(JB), i was told that they are having two embryologists now. One is a senior embryologist with Master and has been practising for quite some time. (JFYI)
