Some more details about our centre can be found at our website www.gfcindia.com. we also have a centre at Trichy, which is about 300 kms south of Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India.
Please find below the answers to your queries.
Thanking you and with Regards
Dr. Priya Kannan

India                                                                            India.

1.       What is the current success rate for your clinic? (preferably by age as I know that the success rate will be much lower for somebody of my age)

The cumulative pregnancy rate at our centre is about 42%. The break up of that figure would be the following :

Age of female partner

Own eggs

  Fresh ET Frozen ET
< 37 years 37% 45%
>37 years 25% -

Donor eggs

Fresh ET Frozen ET
60% 60%

2. What is the maximum age that you treat?

The maximum age we prefer to treat is about 50 years.

3.       What is your embryo transfer policy? How many embryos will you replace at one time?

We do day 3 and day 5/6 transfers.

The numbers of embryos transferred depends on the age of the patient and the quality of embryos available. For a young couple with good quality embryos, about 3 embryos will be transferred. In the older age group, more than 3 embryos may be transferred.

4.       What is the basic cost of the IVF treatment?

The total cost per cycle of IVF or ICSI will cost about USD 3000 – 3500. This cost includes the injections required for the stimulation, ultrasound and blood tests for monitoring of stimulation, the ART package (the lab and theatre charges from egg collection till embryo transfer) and the medications for post embryo transfer luteal support.

5.       What additional costs would / could be incurred?

The additional costs would preliminary work up, travel and accommodation.

6.       What happens to the costs if the cycle has to be abandoned?

At our centre, we prefer not to take the entire cost of the cycle in advance. The patient pays as and when necessary.

In case the patient prefers to pay in advance, that also can be done. In this case, apart from the charges actually incurred to the patient, the rest will be returned.

7.       How long would I need to be in ________ for?

We request that the couple come to our centre a week to ten days prior to the expected date of menses. From then on, the stay in India can be for a month to one and half month.

8.       Who deals with the logistics of flights and accommodation?

The IVF coordinator at centre can take care of the logistics and accommodation.

9.       How is the pre-treatment carried out?

We request the couple to come to the centre one week to ten days prior to the expected date of menses. The couple is registered, followed by a basic work up, scan, semen analysis (CASA) and semen freezing. They will also be counseled regarding the ART procedure.

10.   How do I get medication?

All the injections and medications necessary for the ART procedure are available at our centre.

11.   How will I be monitored?

All ART stimulations are monitored by ultrasound scan (follicular monitoring) and blood levels of estradiol (E2) and LH when necessary.

12.   How will I know that I am not being under / over stimulated?

By way of scan and blood tests, the reports of which will be with the couple. The couple will meet the doctor after each scan and blood test to know their situation and how they are responding to stimulation. They will also be explained and discussed with about all findings.

As we generally use the antagonist protocol, the chance of hyperstimulation is very minimal. As our freezing program is good, in case there is any chance of hyperstimulation, we discuss with the couple and give the option of cancelling the fresh embryo transfer and freeze all the embryos, for future frozen embryo transfers.

13.   Is the clinic registered with any regulatory body?

The centre is accredited by Indian Society of Assisted Reproduction (ISAR).

Resp. Ma’am, I am a doctor staying in chennai. I am planning to get married soon. But the problem is that my semen volume is less than normal. As I am already 35 yrs old, I’d like to have kids as soon as possible. Can you let me approximately know how much it would cost me? One more thing is that I am using Tab.Dutasteride 0.5mg everyday to prevent male pattern alopecia. Would that effect the baby in any way? My number is 9677054693. I’ll be very grateful to you if you could clear my doubts.
    Thanking you,
    Vikram.

  4. Comment by Dr. Priya Kannan

    Dear Mr. Vikram,
i do understand your anxiety. Dutasteride may not dramatically affect sperm production in normal men but it can amplify the negative factors in a subfertile man. if found to be subfertile or infertile you might have to stop dutasteride for a period of time.
Dutasteride does have teratogenic effects. So a pregnant female is not supposed to come in contact with the drug. It will affect the baby if it is a boy.

i hope i cleared some of your doubts.

    All the best
    Dr. Priya kannan

  5. Comment by Dr. Priya Kannan

    Mr. Vikram,

a low semen volume does not necessarily mean low sperm counts.

If you would liek to know and decide accordingly, pls have a semen analysis done.

    All the best.

    Respectd/Dear Madam,

We are married since jan 2008. My wife conceived normally in may 2008 but she underwent miscarriage at the beginning of 5th month in Sep 2008 (due to painless opening internal os , So we were advised to have a transvaginal cerclage in the next pregnancy) . The baby dint survive. Then she had put on weight & developed PCOD problems, because of which it took time for the next pregnancy. She was pregnant again in July 2011 (ovulation induced with letroz 2.5mg BD). Upon our consultation and doctors advice, she had a TVC done at the beginning of 15th week. She was in complete rest. When we went for a scan at the beginning of 19th week (nov 2011), it was found that the internal OS was opened (Funneling). Doctor adviced her to lie down with her feets slightly lifted. She was at complete bed rest in that position for 5 days. But at the beginning of 20th week, the membrane rutured and doctor adviced to remove the stitch. She gave birth to the baby (normal delivery) and the baby dint survive.

Now I need advice on further course of actions like,

    # time/months after which we can try for pregnancy (overcome PCOD issues),
    # perform TAC (before/after identifying pregnancy),
    # avaiability of such facilities in Chennai,
    # if TAC done before pregnancy, possibility of getting pregnant (overcome PCOD problems). How common is this abdominal cerclage, as we are worried , its a major surgery during pregnancy
what would be your advice for our case .

Note: Iam a Chemical engineer (sorry if i had used any impropoer terms)
My wife is a dental Surgeon.

Thanks in advance for Your advice/suggestions.

    Regards,

    Krishnen

You can use http://www.xe.com/ucc/ to get the current exchange rates for all currencies.

  15. Comment by dr. priya kannan

    mr. Krishnan,
first of all sorry about the delay in replying.
yes, all the facilities are available in Chennai.
You may try for pregnancy, 6 months after the delivery. The time can be utilised your wife to get into a good style and lose weight by health diet and daily exercise, which will alson help her control the PCO problem.
As i understand, cervical encerclage has not been very helpful. There are few other options
    1) There is a trial at our hospital for a medicine which is expected to help in situations such as yours. Till now, this has proven to be help. We can try that for you.
    2) if you are not convinced about the above, the 3encerclage can be done even beforwe the funneling is seen, right at 16th week and we can have an expectant management.
of course, we have to rule our and treat for infections.
    3) one of the options would also be to think of surrogacy, you and your wife being the genetic parents.

I hope i hve cleared some of your doubts. please let me know if i can help you more.

    my best wishes

  16. Comment by dr. priya kannan

    hello Beauty,

yes, HIV positive couple can use ART fro conception. though the couple would need extensive counselling before they opt for this.

    Best Wishes

  17. Comment by dr. priya kannan

    Mr. Sathes

I am sorry that i jus saw your query.
yes, we do have a centre in Trichy. It is the 11th cross, Thillainagar. that would be the bus stop.
Unfortunately, i do not consult in Trichy. Our Chief Consultant, Dr. jayam Kannan Consults there on all fridays and Saturdays. for your convenience, the phone number would be 0431-2742999. pls call and get an appt and meet ma’am.
As i have to manage the IVF lab in Chennai, i am unable to come to Trichy. but before U start ART protocol we will definitely get to meet.

    All the Very Best.

  18. Comment by dr. priya kannan

    Dear Ms. Mariam,

I am quoting the ICMR guidelines by which all the ART clinics in India are bound to follow- “There would be no bar to the use of ART by a single women who wishes
to have a child, and no ART clinic may refuse to offer its services to the
above, provided other criteria mentioned in this document are satisfied.
The child thus born will have all the legal rights on the woman or the
    man.”

So u can as a single woman have access to ART services.

As you are in the 40s, i would advise you to start treatment as soon as possible, as the success decreaes with increasing age.

    Best Wishes

    Respected/ Dear madam,

V.happy to see your reply .

I forgot to mention in previous mail , myself & my wife are 28years old & married since 4 years. my wife is B-ve & myself B+ve.

    1. It would be helpful if you can throw us some light on TAC ( regarding the procedure, before & after TAC & competent doctors to perform TAC in chennai ) , because as far as we have searched in web , there are more related stories in foriegn countries than in india . We afraid its a v.rare/ risky treatment here ?!!

    2. Also i would like to inform you that my wife had a TVC on 15th week , when the internal os was cmpletely closed & the funneling would hav most probably happened after TVC which we noticed on 19th week scan . she was able to manage for 1 week in lying down position with her legs raised up, before her membrane ruptured . what would be “the expectant management” as you hav mentioned .

    3. And can u just shortly explain about the medicines that your using to treat this kind of problem , as we are hearing it for the first time .
we also wait for the opportunity to meet u in person , to discuss further .

    Thanks in advance .

  22. Comment by Dr. Priya Kannan

    Dear mr. krishnan,

    sorry for replying late.

yes, as you say TAC is not a common procedure in India.

We have also seen from your history that TVC/TAC does not seem to help.

The medication we are using is under trial and i would be happy to discuss with you in person about it.

    Best Wishes

  23. Comment by Dr. Priya Kannan

    Dear Ms. Mariam,

the ART cost would be as mentioned above.

The sperms donors are selected after screening for the communicable diseases such and HIV and Hbsag. of course they need to have a gopod count. All this is done as per the ICMR guidelines.

    All the Best

  24. Comment by Jeoffrey

Hi! me and my wife are both 33 yrs. old. I have undescended testicles and when i’m about 25 years old, i undergo operation to remove my right testicle. I still have my left testicle but semen analysis result is azoospermia. is there still a chance for me to father a baby of my own? if ever, what treatment can be applicable to me? and can you enlighten me of the cost if possible. thank you

  25. Comment by Yetunde

Having visited your page i will like to ask some questions. what procedure do you recommend for men with low sperm count (42yrs) while the woman has hormonal imbalance, a blocked tube and a minor fibrod (36yrs). will all the test be done within 10 days prio the menses before you advice the couple on what treatment is best for them. what is the success rate in your hospital, if for any reason it fails on the first attempt will more money be paid for a repeat at the second circle. When is your hospital likely to offer discounted treatment. thanks

  26. Comment by dr. priya kannan

    Dear Yetunde,

for the condition of low sperm count, if the count is below 10 million, then the best way to go is by ICSI.

as far as the female partner is concerned, the type of hormonal imbalance is pertinent to decide the course of stimulation. and the size and the location of fibroid has to be known. if it is less then 3 cm and not near the endometrium, then no problem. all most all these can be diagnosed 10 days prior tp mensus except the tubal patency ( which will not play a role when IVF is planned).

the success in our centre, i have already mentioned in a stratified manner above, please refer to answer my answer to Sue’s question number one.

if the first attempt fails, yes, the whole cycle has to be done the next time and the cost remails the same. whatever the procedure was not done, they will not be charged.

    best wishes
    dr. priya kannan

  27. Comment by Dr. Priya Kannan

    Mr. Jeoffrey,

    were both your testes undescended?

    Situation 1
if your left testes is descended but still you have azoospermia, then by testicular aspiration or by extractraction ( TESA/TESE) we can check if you have any sperm production. if sperms are found in the testes then you can undergo ICSI to have your baby. You might have to some hormone tests and also karyotype.

the cost involved is like any other IVF/ICSI cost which i have mentioned earlier. The Cost of TESE/TESA would be an extra USD 300 – 400.

    situation 2
if your left testes is also undescended, then even though the possibility os finding sperms is less, TESE or TESA can be done. again if sperms are present, then you can proceed with ICSI. if no sperms are found, removal of this testes is advised due to the high probablility of cancer in undescended testes.

    All the best

    Dear Dr,
Happy New Year!! I’m aged 30 and my husband is 32.We got married in Sept 2007. We are wanting to have a baby. But in vain. I have a PCOD and i keep gaining weight. We tried an IUI 3 imes but in failure. Our doctor has suggested for an IVF. This gives a lot of mental stress to both of us as you mite understand that pressure’s from our family and from the society. My husband has a sperm count of 20mil.
My husband wants to have a baby Naturally. Now a days the word intercourse stress me out. There is hardly some contact between us. I would like to go for an IVF but he doesnt want to? In our case what would you suggest? and how much does it cost for an IVF today? We live in Chennai.

    Awaiting your reply doctor.

    Kind Regards,
    Gopi

you have ivf money back gurenteed servise reply me

  30. Comment by Priya Kannan

    Dear Mrs. Gopi,

Wish you a very happy new year too!

ideally following failure with 3 IUI cycles, the logical choice is IVF. You are probably a case of unexplained infertility, for whom IVF/ICSI gives good results. the cost of IVF/ICSI in our centre is about INR 1,30,000 – 1, 50,000 per cycle.

I do understand the stress and the societal pressure in our culture.
May I recommend the following for you:
    1) Relaxation. that is one factor that will help you psychologically and scientifically too! try anything, yoga for instance
2)Weight reduction – please stop gaining weight and try and lose the already gained weight. Pls start excercising on a daily basis. this itself can help you relax.

    All the Best

    Dear Dr. Preeya

Thank you very much for your reply. I am a mother of my son who wants to have IVF at your clinic.
Can you give the time frame for having IVF at your center? if we need egg donor and surrogate mother. What are the procedures for each step.

Do we have a chance to select egg donor and surrogate mother from your list?
How long the man ( sperm owner or father) will stay in your city?

Does the egg donor and surrogate mother will be monitored by your clinic?

How many trips do we have to visit your clinic?

How much it will cost for the whole package.

For adoption law, we will consult Thai lawyer

    Thank you very much

Is it possible to have a reversal sterlisation if it is done through rings? If yes can you help me in reversal sterlisation in your centre. If then how long the procedure takes and how soon should I have it, is there a time limit to do reversal sterlisation. Please explain. Thanks a lot for your time.

    Dear Dr Priya Kannan
I have heard about your wonderful work!! Thank you. I am a lady of advanced age between 39-44, my only child is now a teenager and I would like to conceive, but this has failed to happen naturally.
I have missed a couple of months` menses now, and I suspect I could be menopausal. My partner is willing to support me to have a chance to be a mother again. Dr, I wonder if embryology science & medicine can be manipulated to bring back happiness again in my life…
    Please advise me:
    1. can I still conceive in menopausal phase with IVF?
    2. if so, what options are available to me?
    3. I have wanted to have tripplets? Can I be assisted to have these? If this is possible, is there any extra cost for choosing the tripplets option? please advise me on cost as I need to plan now. My partner is extremely fertile.

    I remain grateful with regards

    Sorry All!

There had been some glitches in posting my replies and hence couldnt reply to your queries.

I hope this attempt will be successful!

    My Best Regards to all

  43. Comment by Dr. Priya Kannan

    Dear Mrs. somboon Salyachivin

your son would be required to come to the centre, do basic investigations, store semen samples and do the legal formalities. All this might take a week maximum.

The second visit would have to be when the procedure is actually happening.

I would also like to caution you in one regard to the adoption laws in India. In India, a single male has restrictions about adopting a female child ( the child born through the surrogate). And prenatal testing for sex of the baby is illegal in India.

    hope all goes well.

    Regards
    Dr. Priya Kannan

  44. Comment by Dr. Priya Kannan

    Dear Mr. Aditya,

the law in India prohibits sex determination and selection of a baby.
Best wishes for a complete family, the natural way!

Pls contact 91-44-24728875 for an appt to meet me, if you require any assistance.

  45. Comment by Dr. Priya Kannan

    Dear mrs. Preetha,

yes, reversal can be done. We would have to investigate you to assess your tubes prior to that. We would be happy to help you in our center with that.

    Regards
    Dr. Priya Kannan

  46. Comment by Dr. Priya Kannan

    Dear Ms. Sandra,

Thank you for the kind words of appreciation.

In your situation, i would have to check by testing your hormones if you are menopausal.

Once after obtaining menopause, we would not be able to do IVF using your own eggs. But you can conceive through donor eggs, if this option is okay with you.

I would be transferring upto 4 embryos for you, and hence you do have a chance of conceiving with triplets. I must remind you at this juncture that any multiple gestation has its own set of obstetric complicatiions, more so at your age. There is a high probabitlity of preterm labour with triplets.

    All the Best!

    Warm Regards
    Dr. Priya Kannan

Thank you very much Dr. Preeya. Let me ask for more clarification on these points:

    1. For the first trip, will we have a chance to select egg donor and surrogate mother ourselves?
    2. When will it be the second trip? when the baby is born?
    3. If it is a girl baby, can the intended wife( may or may not have marriage license) adopt the child?

Give sometime, my son may be able to select the right partner. At the present, he is very busy with many things. How can I contact the person who will help for traveling and accommodation? May I have her/his e-mail contact please? I am a retired professor, Ph.D( Psychology)

    Dear Dr.Priya

Thanks again for your response. I will definetely meet you at your centre to get help on the same. Between do I need to take reversal immediately or can I take time insense how long can I wait ( I did sterlisation on the last week of Dec 2011). I need to plan for my holidays in my office and other things. Secondly what document you would require from the centre which did sterlisation for me through lap as I have only a discharge note which has only basic info. If you could let me know about this it will be easier for me to collect and then meet you. If you could share your contact if need by I would call you discuss and bring in the required document and then meet you. Thanks a bunch for your time and consideration.

    Dear Mrs. Preetha,

As you are 34 years now, I woudl suggest that you plan your treatment as soon as possible.

It would be of great help if you could get the operation report, which would help us know the position of the placement of the falope ring. If not available, please do not worry, we can circumvent that.

Please call 044-24728875 to meet me in the above mentioned address or at my evening clinic: Centrepoint Fertility Clinic, 222/222, Lloyds Road, Gopalapuram, Chennai 600086. Phone: 32924448.

We shall take it from there.

    Cheers and regards

    Dear Mrs. somboon Salyachivin,

Yes, you can get to choose the donor and surrogate. Let me also keep you informed that we have only south Indian women as donors.

The second trip would be after birth, if all goes well.

If your son is looking for a partner, that is great news! Adoption of baby as a couple is so much more easier and more importantrly – allowed by the Law! Moreover, your son might have a chance to have a natural conception through the partner, which negates the need for a donor oocyte or a surrogate! Lets wait and see.

Our travel agent Mr. Satyan will help you with the travel and accomodation. Please take your time and whenever u are ready, let me know and i will get Mr. Satyan to arrange all for you and your family! I would write his mail to you as i do not know it byheart! sorry.

All the best and best Regards

  56. Comment by Dr. Priya Kannan

    Dear Mrs. Bagya,

if you husband has nil count, i would like to see if he has sperms in the testes. If sperms are available in testes, then you can go ahead with to have ICSI with your husband sperms.

if sperms are not seen int eh testis then you could go for sperm donation. if your tubes are patent then you can try IUI for about 6 cycles, if you do nto succedd in that then you would have to go for IVF.

    All the very best,

    Dear Dr Priya,

Please where the uterus lining is thin 4mm or less what protocol/ treatment will you use & how long will I stay in your country? I’m 36yrs & that was the cause of my failed ivf. I’m interested in another cycle at your clinic.

    Thanks

  58. Comment by Dr. Priya kannan

    Dear Ada
if the endometrial lining is persistently 4 mm, then a hysteroscope is required to know if there any problems in the uterus.

the protocol for egg production is based on the age, FSH and AMH levels. during stimulation as the estradiol usually is in suorenormal levels, no more supplementation of estradiol is generally required.

in your case, probably, if the endometrium is not upto the mark for fresh transfer, then all the embryos can be frozen and frozen embryos may be transferred when the medometrium is better.

you mught have to stay a bit longer than wehat has been mentioned above as some investigations are required to know the status of your uterus!

    Madam,
My wife has PCOD problem and last yr june she has ectopic pregnency.. 10 days back she has laproscopy.. Dr.told for ivf. but we need for normal baby.. what to do.
    regards

  60. Comment by Dr. Priya Kannan

    Mr. Sanjay,

I am sorry to hear about the ectopic.

All patients who have an ectopic need not have to undergo IVF. but you would have to understand that the chance of second ectopic is higher for a person who has already had an ectopic.

I would like to knwo the following:
    1) how was the ectopic managed?
    2) what did the recent laparoscopy reveal?

All the Best and best regards

    Dear Sir/Madam,
We (32 yrs and 29 yrs) are married since 4 years. My wife is yet to conceive.
Initially, we tried naturally for nearly 2 years. After that my wife had a total of 12 ovulatory cycles (successful), confirmed by follicular studies (all induced with clomiphene, letrazole and hcg injections).

During this period we did battery of investigations which revealed:

    1) On 10/09/2010:
    LH – 16.58, FSH – 15.84, PROLACTIN – 48.89, TSH – 2.73.

    2) On 01/12/2010:
    LH – 9.54, FSH – 9.50, PROLACTIN – 2.01.

    3) On 28/12/2010:
    LH – 15.35, FSH – 13.04, PROLACTIN – 0.75.

All these investigations were on day-2 of the cycle. My wife was prescribed cabgolin after 10/09/2010; she took it 0.25mg once in a week for almost 2 months. Now, we have discontinued cabgolin.

    Thyroid profile – normal.
    Hemogram – normal.
    FBS/PPBS – normal.

    HSG is normal.

My semen analysis is normal. (Done 5 times over this period)

Some other investigations were done 3 months back for my wife:

    # Ovarian Antibody: Negative.
    # Inhibin-B : 61.60 pg/ml.
    # Anti-mullerian hormone: 2.11 ng/ml.
    # Prolactin : 32.25
    # FSH : 13.27
    #LH : 14.53

Our doctor advised laparoscopy for my wife. It was done last month, which was totally normal.

Hysteroscopy and endometrial biopsy reports are normal as well.

We kindly request you to give us positive feedback and opinion. Awaiting your reply,

    Thanking you,
    Rahul

I am 23 years old, I been married for 2 years now. Me and my husband trying to have kids for one year. but unfortunately it’s not working out . The issue is : My cycle is irregular , I don’t get my period naturally I have to take medication to have my cycle I have taking Clamed 5 times now , even if I get my cycle with medications I don’t ovulate. I am not releasing any eggs. Before i got married i was on birth control patches (does this why I am not releasing eggs) I love to have children, but it’s not working for me. :( I am very depressed about this issue. Now we think about IVF , is it’s possible to have my husband’s sperm inject in me? How much does it cost to do IVF in US dollars?

    Please help me
    Marwa from US

    Mr. Rahul,

I am sure your gynec would have told you that the FSH levels of your wife are on the higher side. With these levels, after 6 months of trying naturally, I would rather advise you to think in terms of IVF. I would also like you to knwo that, higher FSH means lesser eggs and slightly lesser chance of pregnancy compared to women of same age with normal FSH.

I think the prolactin levels are rising after stopping cabgolin. I think you shd consult your gynec and may be restart cabgolin.

all the very best and please decide fast….sorry for oushing you to make a decision but it is better done earlier whern FSH levels are high.

Madam, Me and my wife trying to conceive from one and half year. My wife is getting her period regular every month. I done semen analysis and its is vary a lot. First SA= 8 Million cc, second SA= 14 million, third SA=6.5 Million. Motality is normal. Doctor told me that IUI is not possible with 6.5 Million cc so prefere to do IVF.

my age is 30 and my wife age is 28. madam what you prefer ??? and what is the chance with this vary semen count. Waiting for your reply.

  65. Comment by Dr. Priya kannan

    Mr. Jignesh,

With sperm count less than 10 million, the best option for you would be to go for IVF.

I understand that it is a big decision, but this is the best recommended option for you and the chance of conception when your wife is young is much better and is about 40-50%.

    All the very best

    Mrs . Sasibala,

As per your history, you have PCOS and your husband’s count is in the normal range.

    I would like to know
    1) if your tubes are patent?
    2) how long have u been having regul;ar periods?

I request you to look into my answers in questions 4 and 7 in regard to cost and stay in India.

If you have to go through the cycle again, then yes, you would have to pay the amount in full again.

I am married for almost 4 years now. My wife developed PCOS and got operated march last year. Later, after PCR, genital TB was confirmed and hence was under medication for next 9 months. Mycobacterium test was done again with period’s blood and it came negative. Period is normal now since last two months but not conceiving. As for me, semen analysis confirmed all normal. Shall we wait for some more time? or there is some other problem?
