I really like the average TOTAL cost of IVF which is hard to find and in Thailand it tends to be intentionally obscured by many IVF centers and creeps up on you slowly during the process of getting treatment.

What is the source of the average numbers of cycles required to get pregnant?

I would be more interested in cost to achieve a live birth, not just a clinical pregnancy.

How old is the info? Because no way any foreigner in Thailand could do 3.4 cycles for that amount in mid-2011. Most centers well known by foreigners quote that amount for one IVF-PGD cycle now.

Also, maybe it was the current thinking in 2007 but since then number of embryos implanted has gone steadily DOWN and pregnancy rate has gone consistently UP everywhere.

It’s now bordering on unethical to implant more than necessary embryos because it increases risk to mother and baby to have a multiple birth. More embryos increases babies but it does not increase pregnancies.

Your hard work to compile all these valuable comparisions is much appreciated.

I have to agree with Sue/Admin about success rates because I just saw a claim by Superior ART in an article on INGENDER in which they said they had a 47% success rate in 2007. A doctor who uses those offices told me 60%.

According to reliable regulatory bodies such as the USA CDC & others, the USA IVF success rate is only 31.3%, the 32 countries of Europe have an IVF success rate of 33%, Canada is most successful with an IVF success rate of 33.7% and the global success rate for IVF is just 22%.

In Thailand, ART centers must be licensed by the Reproductive Medicine Subcommittee of the Royal Thai College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.

Their official statistics derived from the ART Registry to which all centers must report say that for the period of 2001 to 2007 (the year Superior ART claimed a 47% success rate) the very BEST ANY licensed IVF center in Thailand achieved was 32.3% for IVF and 38.6% for FET.

“Success rates” certainly can be confusing. And there are several ways to improve stats without truly improving live births.

About no answer from an IVF center … Thais are just not very good at English, particularly the excellent Thai IVF centers who are not aiming to attract people from abroad. Lots of Thai couples are infertile these days. Thai people don’t go to the highly visible places all the foreigners go to. I could never afford those prices. Thais pay substantially less for IVF in Thailand than foreigners.

The best value for money in Thailand is to get IVF where Thais get IVF but those people will only have a few people who speak English well.
